I employ myself Traf - there's 1 person in my business. I'm not classed as self employed because I'm a Ltd company. I have to be a Ltd company in my line of work.

It wasn’t directed solely at you. There’s a common misconception that the self-employed will do well out of this.

I derive my income from horse racing and travel, 2 industries that are pretty much in shutdown. My wife is also self employed, she runs classes which are now also closed for obvious reasons.

So we currently can’t earn, but can apply for a grant in late June. There’s no reason to make us wait that long and no suggestion other than a loan to tide people over.

Weve money set aside, but many won’t have.

no worries mate, just venting my spleen, shouting at the internet.

My mrs works in business travel, she's an operations manager, been kept on for now so still has to work but has been asked to take unpaid leave, 90 % of the staff are furloughed, they won't last very long.

As mentioned above is it not better for some of the lads and lasses that are self employed to try and get a job driving, stacking shelves etc till all this blows over? I’m SE and fortunately still able to go to work, however I’m looking at possibly getting a job local as the missus is pregnant and fear for her sanity more than anything. Yes I will be on a lot less but it would be better than the grants on offer. Many supermarkets still appear to be taking on.

Which for tradesmen is no different a risk to carrying on working with more social distancing..

It's less risky going into the house of someone with no symptoms and following distancing rules, than having  100's of people who may be hiding them coming into your workplace, day after day. In Tesco yesterday and despite all the rules, there are still people picking things up, putting them back.. One guy licked his finger so that he could open a plastic bag on the fruit isle!

But then if you're working in a supermarket say you're increasing the risk for your wife.

That's the problem loads have - if you work you increase risk...and that's fine if you and those you live with are all low risk. But if not?

Social distancing in the house.

I've not slept in my own bed for the last 3 weeks. I've been on the couch, separate room for most of the time and spending time in the garden.

Come in, in the bath, and getting changed.

Separate towels, I put food in the over, she takes it out.

All reduces risks

A few days ago didn’t EasyJet pay out £170m to their shareholders?
But is now using the government retention scheme to pay their staff?

Is that not a bit wrong. Same with Branson asking for a government bail out. He’s worth £5b.

Im happily to be corrected but these airlines seem shady as fuck.

That is everything that is wrong with the Airline industry. Same happened at Thomas Cook. Same happened at Air Berlin when I worked there. The CEO had his bonus protected so that the liquidators had to pay him. Meanwhile, muppets like me are still owed over a grand, which I will never see, despite supposedly being at the top of the list of Creditors. As for Virgin, they are 49% owned by Delta which made massive profits in the last years.

The contagiousness of this thing means whatever you do in a shared house you're highly highly unlikely not to pass it on. Its airborne. In enclosed spaces people sitting 10M away from where an infected person sat on a bus got it even when the person had got off the bus 30 minutes earlier.

People do what they have to but there is no way to really reduce the risks inside a property or doesn't seem to be looking at how easily it spreads.

Fully agree but I’m sure a major problem with tradesman is people not wanting them in their homes? Would a decorator for example, who mainly earns from painting and decorating peoples houses, be better off getting a job rather than waiting for a grant? I don’t know the answer just thinking of options.

I had an old lady telling us she didn't want us coming round doing her weeding. Wouldn't be going within 10 yards minimum of her and that's with old stone walls around 2 feet thick in between!

Ah well, nowt I can do about it.

Also had to knock a couple of scarifying jobs on the head- Bury council not emptied the green bins, tips closed so nowhere to put a mountain of moss.

Only so much I can fit in my own compost heaps.

That is one side to it,

I know a lot of carpet cleaners have jumped on the bandwagon of fogging..

I know trading standards will more than likely get involved with them all at some point

Yeah sorry I mean it is contracted from the air via droplets. Not just surfaces. Whilst not technically "airborne" it doesn't require contact with shared surfaces is what I mean...

Painters and decorators aren't supposed to come into your home.

You can buy it and do it yourself.

Seems many places going click and collect so no need to go in places and get close to folk.

I know, but youre not supposed to be leaving your house

Cept for exercise, food and work

My neighbour who was taken away in an ambulance has passed away.

Was told it wasn't CV at the time, but not so sure.

Another wanderer gone.

God bless.

Very sad. My condolences.

Correct. I’ve watched something on it today and they confirmed it isn’t airborne. So not sure why someone would make such a claim and profess to be an expert ?

Thus avoiding Employer and employee national insurance payments which every single person who takes payment via dividends in lieu of salary is doing. Knowingly. Yet want to complain about it when it goes wrong.

A funny one this. Perfectly legal, and as a financial expert on the radio said, ISAs are also a means of tax avoidance, and are perfectly legal.

Does seem a bit unjust I have to agree, presumably there is a good reason for it though?
