Underpants Posted March 29, 2020 Posted March 29, 2020 I'm finding that my dad doesn't fully understand the dangers of some of his actions. He's over 70 and fit as a fiddle but in the at risk category because if his age. Mum is deff in the high risk category. They are mostly abiding by the guidline - no neighbourly visits & chats. No daily drives out to the shops etc.. But my old man still thinks its OK to jump in the motor and take the dogs up Belmont, where no one is (so he says), and walk them. He's also a runner but he has stopped going out every day like he use too. Told him it's not a good idea doing what he's doing and not essential. Dogs will be fine getting fat and doing sweet fa during this time, and his knees will thank him for resting them from the pounding of a jog. Told him my sister and myself will do the shopping if they need anything, but I doubt he'll call upon us for that. He just can't get it in his head that none essential journeys should not be taken. Playing Russian roulette with dog walks and shopping trips is not worth it. Anyway, I'll be bending his ear again tomorrow. Quote

Some tough love needed. You can do it mate though it is awful. My mum has dementia and might argue that dying now is good, what she doesn't get is if that happens now with COViD it will be with strangers in full body suits and not with me holding her hand (as she would rightfully expect). Its tough mate but give them something to hold onto. Quote

My missus has certainly been talking about redecorating the entire house, fettling the garden and building an extension so she can have a "quiet space" - think she's jealous of my man cave aka the shed. However I'm an NHS volunteer, a carer and am in the high risk group so I suspect she just wants to finish me off. Quote

No. He's reasonable, its just that he thinks he's bullet proof by doing what he thinks is right & safe, which it isn't. Education is the key. Like I said, I'll be having more words tomorrow. I appreciate the advise though 👍 Quote

only1swanny Posted March 30, 2020 Posted March 30, 2020 B&m poundstretcher and home bargains all sell DIY stuff... I'm quite grateful my missus isn't allowed out or she would be buying wall paper.. Quote

You can buy it and do it yourself. Seems many places going click and collect so no need to go in places and get close to folk. Quote
