Great photo that, makes you think of one of them days around this time of year just before the 6 week holidays when you're wagging off school but just wander around odd bits of out of sight areas until normal home time.

Was six when I was at school.

Bolton holidays for 2 weeks, back to school for a bit and then 6 weeks off.

Great picture that.

6 weeks holiday it was called in my day.

2 weeks for Bolton wakes weeks (and the bat and ball comp at Wimbledon I think), then back to school for two weeks, then 6 week hols.

Out at daybreak, home at dusk, black as the hobs of hell according to my mum, and starving hungry.

Aye, them were the days.

I'd have to ask my mum

But I only recall six weeks summer holidays

And Bolton holidays were just that. I started work at Fletchers Paper Mill, a 24/7 works, and there was nobody about apart from the machanics in on maintenance. The pubs were quiet because the mill workers used to go to Blackpool for the wakes. The paper shop used to be closed, and one of the trustee paper boys used to sit outside and sell the papers.

Apologies, I went all maudling then.

"Closed for Bolton Holidays, sorry for the inconvenience"

Horwich holidays were always the 2 weeks before, which was weird if you were ont works and all yer mates were still working.

Newsagents closed and some kid sat outside the shop selling a pile of the BEN weighted down with a brick.
