Whitestar Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 Great photo that, makes you think of one of them days around this time of year just before the 6 week holidays when you're wagging off school but just wander around odd bits of out of sight areas until normal home time. Quote

FrancisFogarty Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 (edited) Great picture that. 6 weeks holiday it was called in my day. 2 weeks for Bolton wakes weeks (and the bat and ball comp at Wimbledon I think), then back to school for two weeks, then 6 week hols. Out at daybreak, home at dusk, black as the hobs of hell according to my mum, and starving hungry. Aye, them were the days. Edited June 27, 2024 by FrancisFogarty Quote

I started work at Fletchers Paper Mill, a 24/7 works, and there was nobody about apart from the machanics in on maintenance. The pubs were quiet because the mill workers used to go to Blackpool for the wakes. The paper shop used to be closed, and one of the trustee paper boys used to sit outside and sell the papers. Apologies, I went all maudling then. Quote
