Duck Egg Posted May 16, 2023 Posted May 16, 2023 12th highest wages in the championship. With the lowest crowds (or certainly bottom 3) in the division, this was inevitable wasn't it? Quote

Nixon has posted that the owners have put £3m into the club In Wiggins statement the chairman claims they’ve already pumped in an excess of £20m so far £3 million wont go far - especially with no income except for a small amount of season ticket money coming in over next few months Whilst we all hear about the unpaid wages what you never know in these situations is how much PAYE & VAT is outstanding HMRC will be their downfall and i bet there's quite a few suppliers going unpaid too Quote
Benny The Ball Posted May 16, 2023 Posted May 16, 2023 one other thing on Wigan thought this was good Quote

I think the club will be due sanctions due to the late payment again. There may be sanctions against the owners for not depositing the 125% as agreed. Not sure they can punish the club for that. Fining them should help towards next months wages not being paid on time 😁 Quote

This is Nixon’s take. The EFL demanded that the owners put money in an account to pay wages after previous late payments. This was ignored until now and that may see them incur personal penalties from the authorities rather than a club points deduction. Quote

Don’t have to feel sorry for them but to stoop to their levels is a bit of a poor do and something I felt we were better than. Quote

Honestly, even with the £3m in would you trust them enough? That only covers the next few months and I think I’d be looking for a bit more assurance than that. Wigan are never going to be self sustaining so it’s always going to be down to the owner to fund the club not the fans. Edited May 17, 2023 by Whitesince63 Missed the M out after the figure! Quote
Farnywhite Posted May 17, 2023 Posted May 17, 2023 (edited) I think the only thing Wigan fans can blame the owners for is for them not doing their homework when they bought the club . They have put a few million into it They probably thought support would go up with promotion. When we all know its ceiling is pretty low . Edited May 17, 2023 by Farnywhite Quote

If we stay down that's one less club to worry about, not that i was worried anyway Wigan Athletic FC - EFL Statement: EFL confirm point deduction for 2023/24 season Quote
