Burndens Bogs Posted June 6, 2023 Author Posted June 6, 2023 (edited) I’m torn between expulsion & a rapid death, or a slow & painful one. Either will do nicely. Edited June 6, 2023 by Burndens Bogs Quote

I would be delighted if they got expelled from the forthcoming season. However, I would also fully enjoy a season where they try and scrape by with a cobbled together squad, getting battered every week in front of about 4k In that soulless dump Quote

Take Hunt Off Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 My earliest recollection of Wigan Athletic was at Grundy Hill watching them as visitors play the RMI , I think is was some sort of cup game & the ground was pretty full. Wigan I concluded were a big non-league team capable of attracting a few thousand fans. Essentially my opinion of them hasn’t changed .In the eightes when we hit more or less rock bottom (up to then it was rock bottom) we began to play them on a more regular basis & some sort of mild rivalry ensued , I worked with a loyal Wigan fan at the time & he was sound .Hated the rugby club though which I thought was perverse. We always took over at Springfield park it was like a visit to a less well off neighbour, although they had a few decent players. In my job I moved around a lot & met many PNE Burnley & Rovers fans all of which liked good natured banter based on genuine football rivalry. Then I got a job in Skelmersdale .There were a couple of Wigan fans worked there & all I got from them was vitriolic hatred dressed up as banter , because I was a contractor I had to watch my p’s & q’s but it was hard not to respond to them.In the end my contract ended & I left but my opinion of Wigan fans changed completely . As far as I’m concerned they need to recede back to what they were & maybe the likes of Chorley can give them a good hiding. Quote

But I think if you show anyone the jelly and ice cream antics then it would be hard for a BWFC fan not to wish the worst on them… Someone on their forum said “this is the opposite of what we deserve”, not really sure where they’re getting that from. As long as they suffer I’ll be happy 😂 Was but not now after their behaviour when we seemed to be on the brink. Someone above said 'do a Bury'. Just perfectly describes my position. To see that would be very fulfilling. Their then 200 fans could make Bury their new rival. We would go back to asking 'who - you mean the RL team?'. Quote
W.cramp Posted June 7, 2023 Posted June 7, 2023 Am going through a not sleeping much stage at the minute and so thought I would have look at latics speyk site, and it ain't half and made things better, that lot seem to finally realise that they are fooked, it makes great reading and then if you think that in the same month as them going bump we have announced - The biggest ground naming rights for our club The biggest principal shirt sponsorship deal with a huge company (which I believe we are the first time Victorian plumbing have done anything like this) We announced over 15000 season ticket sales- biggest for over a decade We announce a bond scheme that has a take up beyond what the clubs were expecting We announce upgrades etc on all hospitality in the ground. We have this upcoming weekend where approx 70'000 folk will be in attendance for one of the worlds leading artists mrs pink. I'm sure I have missed others but just how good does the above look, we look to be on such an upward curve and it cant be overstated how good a job FV and others are doing at bwfc and long may it continue. The ticktocks can only dream of being us. Quote

The ticktocks can only dream of being us. It’s all about getting extra revenue and not relying on the football side and this is where Neil Hart has been excellent for us. We are having PINK in concert, new stadium rights names and shirt sponsor all for good money. And of course another source of income is advertising spaces so what does he do find a way to crate more ways to advertise by creating digital advertising ribbon around the middle of the tiers thus more advertising revenue. The owners are not flush with money but unlike them down the road we don’t hand out silly contracts on big name has beens. Yes we would all like a spending spree but I would much rather live within our means. Quote
