only1swanny Posted August 4, 2024 Posted August 4, 2024 Has Starmer actually popped his head above the parapet yet? Seem Yvette Cooper doing all she can but heard nothing from Starmer since he visited Southport, even his statements were forwarded on, First test for him this and he's invisible. Quote

Strange you say that and yet everyone is over Twitter slagging him off for what he said . He held a meeting with the top Police and then a full press conference. I really do not understand why people make shit up. He met with all the emergency services after Southport face to face and then a full televised press conference , how is that having statements forwarded on ? Quote

Far left on Twitter - the corbynites saying Starmer is invisible. Far right saying he deliberately inflamed this by being too present in Southport and then holding a press conference. I always gauge whether a politician is probably getting it about right when they are being criticised by these two groups in opposing ways. Quote

Again strange that Tories are not asking where their leadership candidates are . Last week they were jockeying for position to appeal to the right of the party and those being attracted to Reform. All of a sudden not as much so . Tough to tackle it when it is an issue you have dumped on the country. Quote

Politically if you are reform or right wing you should be absolutely aghast at this because the genuine issues you want to raise have been poisoned by violence and riot. It’s stupid. Quote

Ultimately beyond what he’s done in giving the police full backing and allowing cross force coordination, swift justice etc…I’m not really sure what else he could do. Ive seen people say he should recall parliament but that would be political. I can see how that would score him political points but would do nothing for the violence. Others say he should hold daily news conferences which again I can see helping him politically but not helping stop the violence. Quote

Re-read the rest of it , in fact read it all. You ask a pointed question and then answered it. Heard nothing since Southport, google it there are pages about his conference. Then all his statement which you claim not to have heard were forwarded on Then he is invisible. Quote

It's been coming for decades, with each subsequent government failing to acknowledge any issues, because they're too shit scared for reasons we all know. Throughout politics, civil service, and public authorities, and maybe even the judiciary. We have lawyers being able to work the system and also stall legislation. Independent advisory bodies recommending reducing conditions of entry, and gormless/spineless ministers unwilling to say no. Then mps and the same ministers, being unable to coalesce around anything approaching strong, effective controls. It's a fucking shit show all round. Quote

Yes hard to say he has not said anything and he is invisible when he is getting slagged off for things he stood up and said . It was 2 days ago so he did not hold a press conference yesterday. It is over Twitter he is going on holiday tomorrow, if he goes through with that I will be the first to question his judgement. Quote

I agree and that is why as PM Starmer as the bloke in charge is copping flak , unlucky a poisoned chalice he has inherited, nature of the job. The lot who have overseen our descent to where we are now are competing to be leader of the shambles left behind. Their silence is very telling Quote

We often have differing opinions, you are entitled to be wrong 😘😘😂😎 But the idea he has been silent and only forwarded messages since the attacks is not true. Assume you think his words were misplaced which again is your opinion but hard to disagree that he has spoken publically about it . Quote

I would think a country’s leader would speak on behalf of the country after a day of rioting. Let’s just put it down to being a Sunday and him having his feet up. Quote

No issue with him going on Holiday, long as he leaves his phone on 😛 Rayner should be perfectly capable of running the show Quote
