That's the issue. I'll be bored of the dross before the real stuff starts. If we have to have 48 teams in a World Cup, the top 24-ranked countries should be given a bye in Round 1 and split into 8 groups of 3. The lowest 24 ranked teams play each other (either a random draw or 25th v 48th, 26th v 47th etc etc) in a single knockout game for the right to join one of the above groups. Then you've 8 groups of 4 and shite like Haiti, Curacao and Scotland aren't hanging around the tournament like a bad smell.
