This time the criticism will be warranted. The keeper situation isn't as critical as you think. He wouldn't have one on the bench normally and you can always loan a keeper in after the window closes in 'emergencies' Quote
jmjhb Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 (edited) Baxter's injury record isn't exactly stellar. Honestly amazed not having a keeper on the bench hasn't come back to bite us on the arse, yet the one time we did need it (Tuesday), there was a sub keeper available. "how incredible is it that we still exist having being hours from oblivion" There's been loads of clubs in that situation, smaller teams than ours are now in the premier league, like Luton. The board aren't doing this as a charity, their business plan doesn't work without promotion. You think they'll still be here in 10 years with us still in league one...? "how have we managed to do so well despite not having the money to spend that other clubs have?" We got promoted from league one under Phil Parkinson and dodgy Ken, and spent nowt. It wasn't great to look at but it worked. "how are we even being considered as a prospect for promotion?" Because a mid table team from last year managed to get some cracking loan players, which pushed us into the promotion places. Edited September 1, 2023 by Zog1 Quote

Brilliant! - you've answered Lostock's questions before they're even been asked. Quote

FrancisFogarty Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 5 games gone, one defeat to a side that have currently got the black spot on us, and the seasons over ? The manager is on his way ? Bollocks and bollocks. A good performance tomorrow and it will be back to normal. A hard fought draw. 1- 1 Quote

If so they're morons. The "black spot" thing is a red herring though. The players knew full well how important it was to perform in that game and they couldn't - so IMO it was nothing to do with it being Wigan but more to do with quality and a huge reality check. If we are to avoid another one tomorrow they are going to have to step up big time. The team didn't play well enough against Wigan but they can play better - they've just got to do it week in week out - starting tomorrow. Quote

Mounts Kipper Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 (edited) We need to impose our style of play more than they impose the Warne style of play, sadly it’s easier to impose Warne style than ours and we’ve an Achilles heel in this battle of styles. I’ll take a draw right now. Edited September 2, 2023 by Mounts Kipper Quote

I’ll take a draw right now. I think the problems been that we haven’t imposed our style of play MK but you’re right that if we do we should be able to beat anyone in this league. We seem to allow teams to impose their style on us, whatever that is, like Wigan and Burton instead of going at them from the off. The first 3 games showed what you can do when you hit the ground running so let’s have a return to that. Derby will be a stern test for us but I believe that if we get at them from kick off with our quick pass and move style we’ll be too good for them. Quote

Not forgetting we won promotion in 2017 with Phil Parkinson having spent nothing. Who inherited a squad littered with premier league and championship experience. He didn't need to spend big. What did Evatt inherit? Quote

I've no idea how people don't see that taking a squad that all played at a higher level is much easier than cobbling a squad together without 2 hapennies to rub together. Evatt will get us back into the Championship, like Parkinson did, but it will be a much greater achievement. Unfortunately I'm not sure it will be this season. Quote

We have to do better in the bigger matches against our promotion rivals, every point matters, whether it's now or in April. Last season we played Derby, Ipswich, Plymouth, Sheff Weds, Barnsley(twice) all at home and didn't register a single win. Every game is the same 3 points available, but if we want to finish in that top 2 then we have to be more competitive than we were last season. In one. Especially so as we’re favourites (or joint) to win the league. Quote
BOWTUN BAKED Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 These are the home games you have to win if you really want to achieve automatic promotion. I'm not feeling it today, hope I'm proved wrong, can see some very spectacular melt downs by 5 o'clock Quote

We were joint favourites before a ball was kicked and the transfer window happened according to dickheads who were setting us up for a fall, but that was then. Now, we're one of several teams in with a decent chance and even the bookies are showing Derby ahead of us. Fact is the manager is backing the current squad to get better than they currently are and we'll find out today if they've improved from the Wigan fiasco, but we're in this for the long haul and today might be a little early to take on the favourites. We'll see. Quote
