Wanderlust Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 (edited) My opinion of Mr Evatt - purely in the context of his suitability to manage our club from a footballing perspective, and in the light of the Reading game hasn't really changed overall - he's still in the 5-10 more games and review again category. Given the squad he has recruited, he had very few options to change things up when it was apparent we needed to, so his tweaks were understandable - which leaves the team playing high risk football - very forward looking but susceptible defensively - as we were when we played 352 previously. Realistically the only thing he can do ATM is to help them play his way better if promotion is still the goal and I suspect McAtee and Collins are going to have work very hard to be regularly selected playing this way. Tutu should force himself into the team when he's better and the back 3 should face competition. On the plus side, there is very little chance of any of our games being boring but there will always be the risk of losing, and IE needs a run of wins now to calm the waters. burnden Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 With a quarter of the season gone already are those who were thinking 5/10 more games , Christmas or See the season out still of the same opinion? Quote

Xmas for me still. Then a new man would have Jan. But I'm almost certain we will limp through the whole season and we will make the play offs. Lose them and it's goodnight Irene. Quote
Eddie Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 On one hand I’d give him the next 4 games, to prove that he has changed and can actually successfully get us through big games. Realistically though I think everyone knows the answer, everyone knows how this is going to end and so it’s 4 more wasted games from which I don’t expect us to have more than 4-5 points. Quote
Leyther_Matt Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 I guess the question is what do we actually want from the next few games? Up until last night, we were picking up plenty of points but even then weren’t a happy camp, but anything other than results is so hard to quantify. I think I’m now at the point that he’s got until the next international break. Losing any of those either means losing another home game, losing a cup game against lower division or losing yet another local game and I think at any of those points it’s beyond retrieval. Win at least two of them and he’s safe until Christmas. Quote
masi 51 Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 Not going to slate him for last nights performance just like i never praised him for the previous few. Evatt lost me this time last season when both Carlisle and Wigan turned us over and i said he had no plan b......Seems he had a plan b,c and d which made plan a like the 1970 Brazil line-up. We then invested with Collins at January and blew both the automatics and the shambles that was Wembley. Summer recruitment was shocking yet again we brought in crocks and players getting one last pay day. The recruitment of another joint first team coach was another head scratcher as was turning down a million for Vic Morley is turning good performances week in week out for a team currently third in the league as is Sadlier. Evatt wont turn this around now because he puts square pegs in round holes and now these pegs are mounting up in the treatment room. Evatt was great for us 5 years ago but like Sarcevic and Doyle the club outgrew him Quote

Lt. Aldo Raine Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 He'll be here until the end of the season As long as it's thought we're in touching distance of the play-offs, or capable of getting back within touching distance, he'll remain in post Quote
wakey Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 Given there doesn't seem to be any great rush to get rid, reckon we'll all end up of the same opinion soon enough. Quote

Assuming she's run successful businesses (not just investments) she'll know the feeling when a senior head just isn't (and isn't going to) work out. The delay to pulling the trigger will be taking the time to get the next move right. I caveat that with my earlier comment - not sure what her background actually is. Quote

Currently available coaches you've got Schumacher, Lowe, Wagner, Beale. All reasonable shouts for us and done more in their careers than our current incumbent. Possible ones we could tempt from other roles are the likes of Skubala and Selles, or maybe even a younger coach that's after a step into management that's come from the City pyramid or from Liverpool maybe. Bit of fresh ideas and links to higher up the pyramid. Quote

nantwichwhite Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 I'm gutted to be talking about a new manager, but our defence is awful and he is a former defender. Through sheer petulance he is sat up in the stand when he should leading through the sidelines. I don't know who picked that side last night but it was always going to end up in defeat. It was a damage limitation exercise and sold the club, the players and the fans down the river. Although I haven't the foggiest who should be our next manager or whoever with this unbalanced squad could make things better, Quote

Take Hunt Off Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 I agree Evatt will be kept in post until the playoffs are unattainable. Also his potential successor will have to more or less dismantle the team which is not a quick process . Personally I would snatch off any hand that offered the last place playoff position.Even that scenario is going to have to see a substantial improvement in performances & results. Quote

I get the feeling going off chat about this Swiss mob that they would have a pretty big say in any next appointment. If it were just down to SB I'd say we'd be looking for a project/philosophy type manager again but maybe they'll want to aim for a quick return and go for someone more experienced Quote
