I must admit, Buckingham does sound pretty impressive on how he managed to beat us at Wembley.

I remember being impressed with his knowledge and attention to detail, not to mention the actual application. They schooled us on the day having been fannied by us a few weeks before.

I'm less keen on Buckingham

I think they spent a tidy sum on their squad and it wasn't one that he built

They were third when he took charge and ended up sneaking into the play-offs

He then didn't seem to thrive in the league above

Stop the pass into Sheehan and make santos pass to Jones or Toal, everyone in the reebok couldve devised that plan  post Pompey away. Shows more how limited we were than Oxford playing a blinder. + Maghoma was nailed 2 mins in

Discount the best manager we have had in living memory ? and that’s not even up for debate

Tier 3 is the only league in the pyramid Sam has not been promoted.

Parky would be our best former manager at this level.

2nd I think

On a budget bigger than ours

If its him, fair enough

They just closed us down and crippled Maghoma.

Hardly rocket science.

Then he got sacked shortly afterwards.

It’s a no from me.

I would prefer shumaker, it wasn't rocket science but they beat us fair n square on the day.

The main issue for me, wasn't the obvious tactic the opposition would employ, but the equally obvious fact that we wouldn't alter our approach.

With all those players in front of ours, then earlier balls in behind or to feet of forwards making an angled run etc, should have yielded opportunities for our midfielders to have overloads in supporting the forwards.

Equal and opposite reactions etc.

It's as if the players were shit scared of trying something else, despite Evatt often saying he wanted players to find solutions on the pitch.

Whether that's because he'd fuck them over if they didn't get it right, or they were so coached in one way, that they didn't really have any sense of a plan who knows.

Simply we didn't have an alternative.

That made us even easier for the opposition: stifle plan A, and they'll keep trying plan A.

Id take them as a pair myself

Was just having a look at lowe, presumed he got sacked by Preston, but left after 1 game of the season because he wanted a break

Also didn't know Risdale is director at Preston

Seriously, been out in Preston tonight and folks are ripping me that Lowe might be our next manager.

They hated him on a Megson scale.

Rather have Lindsey Buckingham......Maloney [Wigan] Simpson Carlisle both worked how Evatt set his team up 6 months before Buckingham..... Would you want either of them

Managed Oxford for three quarters of a season then got sacked.

Schumacher for me

There are a million articles about new manager bounces out there. A great book years ago called Soccernomics analysed it too.

In short, there is usually a small uptick over the first 5 games, but most teams then revert to type after that. This is an average of course. Some get a new manager and get worse. Some get better. And some stay the same. On average, most stay the same after the first 5 games.

Anyone know what was the bounce for United this season? One Thursday night game?

Pretty much the same for every manager since SAF.

Some started well and tailed off, others bumbled around without doing anything special.

They've been in a bit of turmoil for years.

Relatively speaking, we're in a better place, and there are plenty of examples of a new manager takings things up a notch.

On the odds - the only time to pay any attention is when someone goes massively odds on. And even that is flawed sometimes. But the only people betting real money on this market are people who have some inside info. The bookies wouldn't be sticking at 8/11 if anyone was properly backing it.

I'm assuming (and hoping) this means separate interest

That they're interested is a no brainer - they'd crawl over broken glass for it.

Might be reading too much into it, but that's two outlets that have reported that Schumacher is interested in it. If he's having to put his name out there it's unlikely FV have been banging his door down.
