Whitestar Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Some multi talented players in them days. Kevin Keegan could ride a bike like Bradley Wiggins. Quote
ianofcleveleys Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Chris Balderstone was one of the last few who played football and another sport professionally at the same time. In the early 1970s he played football for Huddersfield, Carlisle, Doncaster and Queen of the South while also playing cricket for Leicestershire and England and later umpiring for many years. Quote
passmosster Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Didn't Ken Grieves who captained Lancashire cricket once play in goal for us? Quote

Ian Botham was a few years later, when he turned out for Scunthorpe. Quote

Rival Son Posted April 16 Posted April 16 I’m not saying Botham was Pele but he made 11 appearances for Scunthorpe. His debut was against Bournemouth but you’re correct that he came on as a sub. At the time he came on, Scunthorpe were 2-0 down and shortly after were 3-0 down. However, with Botham’s input, Scunthorpe scored three times late on to draw 3-3. Reads like a better, if short career*, than most. *This is only his Football League career. He also plays at a decent non-league level for Yeovil Town. Quote
bolton va va Posted April 16 Posted April 16 Which 3 England captains have played for Scunthorpe ? Ho ho fucking ho Quote

Jimmy Meadows had taken us down the previous season, the third manager of a grim season that included Nat having one of his three spells as manager. My first game was the last one we won, 2-1 v Sheff U, in Jan. I didn't see another victory and we went down with a whimper. I was still hooked though and back the next season, when things started looking up again Quote

I console myself with "Nah, it's a reference to Aston Martin". He is not into any sport other than motor sport (cars and bikes in general) so I am managing to convince myself. Imagine if they'd called him Harley 🙂 Quote
