only1swanny Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 great game, Knight had another strong performance running the defence, its a good sign and he is living upto his transfer fee nicely. CYL was great first half, seemed knackered second half Elmander is something else. He runs like crazy and covers more area than the midfielders, him and Klasnic upfront would be a great partnership. You could tell when he went off the difference, Klasnic looks lethal infront of net, but elmander is a quality player.. Its annoying me how people are throwing abuse at himfrom the stands.. Ricketts seems to be doing well alongside KNight at CB, not sure why JLS wasnt at left back, he seems stronger than robinson. Steinsson had another good performance keeping up witha winger who was a lot quicker.. some nice strong clearances. Holden is something special, and will do really well for the club Wilshire, what can i say ran a lot did a lot, nice one ! Davies is struggling atm, he needs to be in the team but reckon that Elmo and Klasnic are better for that psoition, but he leads the team well ! Muamba is did a sterling job plenty of great tackles and play making, Matt Taylor, deserved to be dropped after the Spurs fiasco, hopeully Coyle had a word in his ear as when he came on he seemed a different player than last time i saw him.. Jussi... scares me a lot.. hes communication with the defence is chronic !! Loads of clearences from defence because it seems clear they dont trust him.. And im sorry but chesting the ball down when your in net is a deffo NO NO!!!, hes a great shot stopper and a good keeper, but sometimes he scares the life out of me.. Ive said a few times that we have a team full of squad players.. We need someone who can be another potential captain, and its scary to think who might be shown the door at the end of the season. We are in a lucky position to have so many home grown players considering the new rule that comes in next year, it means that we may get money for players who wont be getting in.. MOTM Knight or Muamba..
Alf Hartigan Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 A lot of fair comments on this site tonight, not a lot to argue with. LCY can have a quiet game but always seems our likeliest player to 'make something happen' Very disappointing to hear fans booing Taylor coming on. Think I would have ended up scrapping if I was in the ESL. Muamba MOTFM, and if he carries on like that MOTFS for me.

There's not many who do what Muamba does better than him. Could easily have finished 1-1 today but then again we could have got something in the away game.

desperado Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 Good result and a decent performance but we have a long way to go our fixtures are not exactly kind, I stil think it will go down to the wire, I must say that the negativity of the Megson era seemd in the distant past, well done to Owen Coyle today for having the bottle to go for it and play the young lads Coyle been getting a little stick and proved some fans wrong today, also well done to the fans great support second half. Spot on there mounts. There are going to be some more down times ahead, and that's not being negative after a great result, just realistic and I hope the majority can accept that and not come on here after the next defeat and start doomongering about how depressed they are. 1 - 0 was my prediction, it was close, we probably edged it, got a bit of luck, but overall deserved the victory. Anything from the next 2 away games is a bonus meaning the Wigan game at home will again be a massive game, plenty of those before the seasons out. COYFWM
magic legs Posted February 28, 2010 Author Posted February 28, 2010 I was sat with Whites Man - some absolute tit about 4 rows behind us slating Elmander after about 10mins. I really wish these people would just stay at home. That said, I don't think Elmo & Davies really work together, but then I don't think we can play today's midfield with Klasnic against a decent side. Good game today. Muamba was immense and on this form must be player of the season. I thought Ricketts was excellent and Holden looks very tidy indeed. A great day!
frank_spencer Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Positives: Elmander, Muamba, Holden, Wilshere and Chungy played well another clean sheet wolves are going to struggle We won. Negatives: Jussi was very error prone we were lucky with the 2 shots off the post Ref was shocking

Didledee Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Wolves hit the post 3 times didn't they? The freekick and the one when the Wolves player headed it then volleyed, but also didn't the one from the corner hit the post, or was it a Bolton player who cleared it?

HomerJay Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 (edited) ive missed something here, how was wilshere any good? he certainly wasnt bad, but was very quiet imo, gave the ball away in some appalling positions. he had a couple of spell were he looked quality but really didnt want to be on the left, always coming inside (possibly coyle told him too though) no doubt he has talent and with more games will improve but not sure what he offered yesterday apart from a few tidy, simple passes. overall, i was quite disappointed to be honest. Arnold Jackson Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Braver team selection from Coyle. I'm slightly disappointed it's taken so long for him to have the courage to back his own judgement and use the likes of Wilshere, Weiss and Holden from the start. I expect we would have had the same negative results in previous games if he'd put em all in earlier cos it takes time for players to gel. But given a run in the team I'd stick my neck out and say these 3 are capable of great, great things for our club! The sooner we get eem all in and confident the better!!! Course my opinion of what makes it possible for us to play such fine and fancy footballers in the same midfield is Muamba's form! Credit to Megson for bringing the lad in but ultimately he failed where Stuart Pearce for U21's and now Coyle are succeeding in getting the best out of a fantastic energetic tackler.... Now ban him from shooting though Owen A few months ago if you'd told me we'd keep more clean sheets with Robbo, Ricketts, Knight all playing and Cahill missing I'd have been astounded. Stats don't lie though and we have a few shutouts recently and I can only put it down to Coyle's team coaching the defence slightly better. I'm optimistic about the future under Coylie... and that's whether we do or don't stay up!!!
Arnold Jackson Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Holden looks a good prospect, reminds me of Jules Darby but with skill. Reminds me of David Beckham first time I saw him play
Whites man Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 meldrew, i think he means you No, these guys were under 40 and hadn't bought their clothes from Greenwoods

He has to be good he plays for arsenal thats the media we have today, however I was quietly impressed, in particular when the ball broke on the edge of our box his calmness and efficency in controlling the ball and passing it to a white shirt played a part in our victory, the lad is quality and he will only get better.
snowball Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Great to see the young lads given a chance in midfield. Ok perhaps we were expecting a little too much from Wilshere straight away but I would definitely keep him and Holden in. Muamba was awesome. Elmander is not going to score the goals to keep us up. Had the luck today which was a nice change. Two struggling sides but they served up an entertaining match. Hope springs eternal!
superjohnmcginlay Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Mightly relived as the final whistle went, battling performance once again we played decent stuff at times, though Chungy did superbly for the goal, Knight good finish too. Elmander shouldve scored. Klasnic gets better for me with the flicks and simplicity of what he does. A general threat when he is on the pitch. Muamba again battled hard and the volley that landed in the upper tier shoews his improvement Holden again looked confident on the ball and played well. The posts had a great game also! Very happy to be able to look at the table and see us out of the bottom three, that in itself is confidence boosting
GudniForever Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 I reluctantly have to agree with Homer on this, I didn't feel we played all that well this afternoon but as is the case with everybody I imagine I would take such a performance every week if it rendered points. Had the opposition offered some more quality, and a bit of luck it could have been another story so i still feel nervous . Stand out performer was MUAMBA today, I noticed at the dingles last week and many times yesterday he has excellent positional sense and finds himself in positions that a good striker of the ball would flourish, I would be interested to see how many shots he has had this season ( admittedly poor in most cases) but he does find the space, well played Fab. LEE had flashes of quality and has been mentioned earlier in the thread he is the most likely to make things happen yet he did get a bit lost second half. STEINSSON was exposed time after time as he has been all season, I love the lads passion so I want him to play but he really needs to start shitting wingers up by clattering them and not backing off, he and jUSSI seem to get crossed wires far too often aswell ROBINSON was solid with not noteworthy "reckless" defending to mention, I do belive that JLS is a better oftion there but I can understand Coyle playing him for his experience in a fairly makeshift defence ZAT KNIGHT was Solid and seems to be flourishing with the responsibily as our "no 1" defender as Cahill is out, we may have a good base if we can keep hold of CAHILL. I have to admit having egg on my face regarding Knight, I had written him off far too early. HOLDEN played well, has the combative style of COHEN with the ability to pass well and move with the ball, I know its early days but he could be a major assett to the rest of the season and hopefully beyond SKD is struggling, the ball does brake down with him far too often, His ability in the air doesnt seem what It was consistantly and when he does he often gets unfairly penalised, I hate too say it but every dog has his day and its just about up for Davo imo ELMANDER, Work rate is good that is not to be disputed but he doesnt gamble enough, if he doesnt feel he is going to make the ball he slams the anchors on even with the possibilty of the defender miscontrolling it. I really want Elmo to be a success, I know his confidence has now gone into minus figures but he reminds me of that Kid at school who thought he was good because he could do a few fancy flicks but couldny actually pass the feckin thing. The amound of times yester day he attempted something "Ronaldoesque" with low confidence and better options really got on my tits. I still beleive he and KLASNIC is the was to go, the lack of pressure as the goalsorer would allow him to unsettle defeneders and find other forward players, which I feel he does best. KLASNIC- Very suprised not to see him start, another good quality performance when he came on, he has to play whenever he is fit for me, he's the only player in the team with genuine world class quality, albeit not always WILSHIRE did as well as I would expect playing as we do, too many fans are expecting wonders from him which isnt going to happen, He is very raw and young as is WEISS, they both possess undoubted quality but often try doind too much ( especially in Weiss, case) He is a good player but i do understand Coyles decision to use him sparingly, if he was Prem ready he would be being used at Arsenal, did his job quietly well today, dispite being out of position against a physical side. It frustrated me that He and Lee are so far away from eachother all the time, both of their speed of thought together I feel would create chances, how often does Lee set off with the ball only to have to turn round has nobody has read him? All in all though pleasing result, hope it instills some confidence for WHAM, COYWM!!! Ok so thats my little nuggett, Thanks for your time!
GudniForever Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Evsi? where did you go second half? thought you had seen enough after Elmo's miss in the 1st half ( Its Danny's mate Chris from in front of you if your wondering)
