MACCA Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 The DMB's had a trial singing section the other night. 1400 like minded fans having a sing song for the full 90 minutes. Now I no we dont like praising that shite down the road but it worked and could work all over the country. Would people be interested in a designated area at the Reebok?? In my eyes the best place to do this would be the west stand lower towards to south stand. I no we have 10 of us who sing in the North and the 14 year olds under the scoreboard but a singing section might just get some atmosphere back into the ground. Quote

athywhite1958 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 This was talked about before the move to the Reebok, it'll never haoppen Quote
Biggish Dave Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 They tried it at a couple of UEFA games in the north lower, didn't make too much difference Quote
Sweep Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 serious question....are people really that bothered about having a "sing" when they go to a game? Quote
gonzo Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Make half the Esl standing and may have a chance. Quote
Sweep Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Make half the Esl standing and may have a chance. I agree, you can't have a singing section if people have to remain seated all the time. Even folk who go to church stand up when they sing. You can't sing whilst sitting down. I'm not sure we'll get back to terraced areas again, if/when we do, then the singers will naturally gravitate there. Simply allocating an area in the ground for them won't Quote
Guest Blixa Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Should hire in a gospel choir. Mind you, not sure the tambourines would get past security. Quote
Sweep Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Do we not just need some fun new songs just top get the atmosphere going Go...... Quote
Mounts Kipper Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 This has been tried before and without much success what would help is an unreserved safe standing area the kids in the east lower should join the lads in the north stand lower who for me are the lungs of the Reebok they are relative few in number but do punch above their weight, what also would help is a bit of attacking positive and passionate play. CAPSLOCKCOLIN Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 The north lower 'singing section' against Atletico was the best atmosphere I've ever experienced at the Reebok. Problem being, it's a family stand and will never be populated with pissed up fans wanted to give abuse to opposition fans and players in the long term. Instead we have people applauding opposition keepers FFS. The biggest mistake the club made on this was moving the away fans from the the ESL side to the WSL side. We used to have a decent atmosphere when the ESL corner were next to away fans. Quote
Leyther_Matt Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Best bet would be giving us some of South Lower, unreserved seating and a 'flexible' attitude to standing up and whatnot. Let people move their season tickets there for odd games and that as obviously it wouldn't be able to be used for certain games. Believe Huddersfield did something similar before they got promoted. The problem of introducing it in to existing areas is that we've got existing ST holders so it's hard to get people sat together etc. Quote
Pie Eater Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Dickhead corner was always where you went if you wanted to stand and sing but the atmosphere has died on its arse down there now. Doesn't matter if it's a designated section or not, you'll get no atmosphere if it's half empty Quote
Traf Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Over zealous stewarding by dickheads dampens any attempts at creating "atmosphere" Quote
BWFCOLINH58 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 (edited) far too many people treat the stadium as their living room, walk to their favourite seat, place their comforts around them and expect an unrestricted view of the show, and god forbid anyone who wishes to make a noise. walk in front of them or even stand for a while. unreserved seating and a more relaxed attitude to standing is needed, and if you don't want your little darlings to hear the odd dodgy word - song keep them at home, although they more than likely hear worse in the street or school Edited October 25, 2013 by BWFCOLINH58 Quote
Pie Eater Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Moving the away fans away from dickhead corner hasn't helped Quote
Carlos Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 I'm all for it, although I'd be sat in the non-singing bit as I'm 42 years old. The only rule that would apply would be anyone waving their arms to get others to join in would be ejected. Quote
kent_white Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 All the singers are there, we're just not joined up. I'm in the North Lower and there are very vocal pockets of singers but most of the time, their efforts to get some atmosphere going are dampened by the intervening rows of fans who are doing their level best to ignore the fact that there's a song they could join in with. I don't know if a singing stand would work, sounds a bit contrived to me. Safe seating or standing section in place and as others have mentioned, you'd get people gravitating towards it. Quote

Carlos Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Not really, just it's no longer for me, something more for the more enthusiastic yoof. I just can't be arsed joining in their limited repertoire. Quote

I think the issue with the previous singing section was they wanted to move people away from the unofficial standing section and as far from the away fans as possible. Put it in the south section of the East Lower and continue to look the other way when it comes to standing and it might just work Quote

I guess its just the shite lazy arse era we are now living in. Edited October 25, 2013 by Mounts Kipper Quote
tomski Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 (edited) I think we need more arm wavers getting people to join in who don't want to! I'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet ha. Standing needs to come back ln some form as the more comfortable you get the less arsed you get. Emirates is a great example (sitting in them seats was sending me off to sleep) I like the idea of a vocal section but why hasn't it been done surely not that hard to say atmosphere section this section then folk who want to sit and watch can get on with it somewhere else.
