Posted March 8, 2014 Share Posted March 8, 2014 lad I know won't fly anywhere, bergkamp style. he lived in Gibraltar for a few years and used to have to drive back if he wanted to come home. his fears are bizarrely from his days in the RAF. he told me he'd been on callout in a unit nicknamed smash and grab. they used to go out and have to pick up the pieces if a plane crashed, literally dig them out of the ground as best they could. His reckoning was that RAF planes are the most checked in the world and if they can go down as often as they do then your civvie ones are checked a lot less (especially at weekends when the ground staff get lashed on a Friday).
