ianofcleveleys Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 one thing I did notice about the protest.. most were too young to remember pre-reebok days... I'm not sure where the Gartside out argument comes from, bad appointments.. We were lucky with BSA, last 20 years we haven't had a "big name" manager come in, we simply cant afford one we aren't a big name club and cant justify the wage bill and transfer fee's these managers want to have.. We managed it with BSA, but trying the same with Sammy Lee and Megson led to our ultimate demise. On the contrary, had ED PG forseen this decline, and refused to allow GM and SL this money ( as they had to rein in BSA), would we have been relegated sooner ? Coyle was an up and coming manager, as was Freedman, Nearly every fan was happy with coyle, and most (some underwhelmed) by DF who had worked wonders at Crystal Palace. Megson wasn't a terrible appointment, it made sense to have a proven manager, but he had the fans hating him...and Sammy Lee was living in BSA's shadow.. Other clubs have had successive bad managers, the only difference is that we have given them a decent amount of time, as is only fair. Money wise, the accounts are clear to see, we were geared up for premiership without a decent plan B, We're "in debt" to the owner and no other club has ever counted this as debt. We're expanding the Middlebrook complex and have heavily invested in the Free school, which will help promote our academy (GOv talks to allow Free Schools to be profit making can only be a good thing going forward). We simply don't have the set up to be a self sustained Premiership team. The debts there and we have to chip away at it, the financial constraints are in place so we cant buy any luxury players. I have the impression that DF abused these constraints with his loan system (we still have to pay loan wages), and that his method of getting loads of mediocre squad players and using them in a rotation system would have been utilised better with some quality championship players and utilising the youth system, which by all accounts he has tired to destroy and mainly ignored. DF has brought in his own deadwood to replace the old "deadwood", and the next manager now has the job of sorting through these. Beckford Trotter, Spearing, Moxey and Medo will become DF's version of Mears, Eagles, Andrews, Sordell...... we might get lucky and get promoted but I think a lot of fans have to accept, its bad luck on the appointments and we're down here for a scrap. Very well summed up. Quote
lordofthedarts Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 I accept gartside may have been a part of our most successful era but when we hear a 'fan' who is taking so much out of the club a season and reminding us how much debt we are in it does anger me. We will never ever know what really happened when big Sam left but with his performance he never seemed to be backed sufficiently. People say forget them days they have gone but if we replaced Sam with a good enough manager I don't think we'd be here Quote

Guest Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Ffs taking so much out of the club? Its his salary. Didnt back Sam sufficiently? Eddie dug his own cash out to pay for Anelka. And Diouf.... It is also not like we paid Campo and Okocha etc in buttons. Gartside is appointing managers in a division where Freedman was the second longest serving manager. It's easy to say how bad a job Gartside has done and there are things to criticise legitimately. But it isn't like there are loads of clubs where they get good long term managers in this league. The most likely outcome of a managerial appointment is they will be sacked within 2 years. The only man who could almost guarantee us success is Eddie. If he chose to or was able to we could within 5 years be a premiership side almost guaranteed. But that isn't happening so we need to hope that any new manager can work miracles on ever decreasing budgets. Facts say that the vast majority cannot do that. Quote

Anelka money was a loan from Eddie, and he took all of the money we got from him back plus the interest so lets not make out he just gave him to us with his loose change. Yes of course. That is why the money owed to Eddie hasn't gone up since we sold Anelka...... We spent the Anelka money in the same window he left on Taylor, Steinsson and Cahill. Then Eddie gave more money to sign Elmander and Muamba in the next window. It is an absolute nonsense to make out he just pocketed the money from the sale. Quote

He intended to keep the initial investment plus a fee. In the end though most went back into other players. Quote

davidjack Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I'm glad we waited all this time to hear from Gartside. Apparently it was the shit we gave DF that forced the issue...not the two consective worst starts to a season in 110 years. And there's a lot of "unfinished business" for the new guy to do. So it sounds like he was generally happy with the job he did...oh apart from the taking us to the bottom of the league bit. No admission of any failings on his own part of course. Crisis? What crisis? Quote
