Qatar World Cup

Right - forgetting the bent bidding process and the conditions of the migrant workers building the stadiums - does anybody else agree that a Nov/Dec competition has the potential to be ace?

Firstly because it will take up most of the traditional Christmas bullshit season so we'll all be talking about football and not festivities. Secondly just for the novelty factor. And thirdly because we can see whether or not our well worn excuse about our players being tired stands up to scrutiny.

It’s not like any other England manager since Sir Alf has come anywhere near Southgates results in major tournaments.

They’ve all had the same success since Alf. None.

He has same record as every England manager after Ramsey.. failure! he’s had 3 big games and has a 100% loss record. Just to make sure give him the euros and watch him fail again.

We’ve got the players, that squad is amazing, like many others before them. There’s always something missing though. Always the same old story. England fans beginning to sound like scousers which will please @Spider

They’ll not be amazing until they get the same type of spirit, technique, togetherness and most important some bottle as a team like Croatia, as a team collective they piss all over our lot.

Proud of England tonight just got unlucky hopefully either Morocco or Croatia to win it now but I won’t be watching after tonight!

Madness, watch some proper footballers.

Going by your logic though, they're also abject failures.

Hand on heart can you honestly say England haven’t made progress under Southgate?

Yeh some bollocks is being spouted tonight. England had another decent tournament, very unlucky to lose that and 4/5 excellent performances from young players who are going to get better. Moaners are going to moan though😂

If Kane had put that penalty away, everyone would be saying what an inspired substitution Mount was. To steal a recent comment from Gonzo - he can't wipe the players arses for them.

Not read this thread back but did they say in commentary we haven't come from behind having conceded first to win a knock out game since 66?

What a shit record

I thought England players did a far better job of taking the knee as well. France were far too upright😀

There has been progress, a lot off it in off field and back room areas. We could arguably be seen as consistently good runners in tournaments who are respected by opponents.

But, we're still not winners, we're still short of having that bit extra that sets the best apart from the rest. For me that's a mix of players (we're still short in some departments), guile (we're largely a young side), flexibility of approach and a bit of shithousery (we still look a bit naive at times).

I'd love more of our players to play abroad.

I think that'd really help us somehow.

Another decent tournament 😂😂 yes I got sucked in by that at first but now reality has hit. We have played one good side and lost. It’s like city playing  the  early rounds of the FA cup then losing to their first decent opposition. Do you think their fans would say “well that was a decent cup run” would they fuck

I’m not sure as the prem is the best league in the world.

Reality is we deserved to win tonight, but we didn't, because that's football. If your only definition of a 'decent tournament' is winning it outright, no wonder you started supporting City when they started winning everything.

Who mentioned winning it? A decent tournament isn’t losing the second  game of the knockout stages.

Maybe you need to look up the definition of "decent".

Euro 21 decent.

The top end of it is, but despite that I just think it'd be good for our players to challenge themselves in other countries and expose themselves to other footballing cultures.

We have quite a few players capable of playing Champions League football but don't because their club team can't qualify for it (Rice, Pickford, Maddison, etc.)

2022 was earmarked for years as "the one" for us, I seem to recall it being targeted ages ago when the Burton facility first opened and before that. Since then we have started producing the kinds of players we used to crave having in our side and we will carry on doing it. We'll get there. Only one team can win these things though, it ain't no cake walk Im just enjoying the ride. We go again in Germany, with an absolute army of noise in tow.

I know many have loved it but I never want this experience of having to process a wanderers league game on same day as an England tournament game again. if one or both win, maybe a different story however!

As a Wanderer and an England fan, today has been an absolute turd of a day.

Shit happens, we move on.

England's performance will look a lot better when France beat Argentina or Croatia in the final. Argentina have nobody who can deal with mbappe . Nahuel Molina is not quick enough. Their defence in general is not good enough to stop France.

Croatia I think have more chance of winning it than Argentina IMO but the way this world cup has gone , who knows
