Qatar World Cup

Right - forgetting the bent bidding process and the conditions of the migrant workers building the stadiums - does anybody else agree that a Nov/Dec competition has the potential to be ace?

Firstly because it will take up most of the traditional Christmas bullshit season so we'll all be talking about football and not festivities. Secondly just for the novelty factor. And thirdly because we can see whether or not our well worn excuse about our players being tired stands up to scrutiny.

We lost, it’s not spin it’s fact.

Yes we did.

But we didn't lose because of Southgate.

Did we win the previous games partly because of Southgate?  If you think not then I’ll accept he didn’t play a part in us losing last night. I agree with Southgate when he said last night we win as a team and lose as a team.

Anyway, come on the argies

There's only really Eddie Howe or Graham Potter who I'd be relatively happy replacing Southgate with (that I can think of).

And I doubt either of them would want the job at the moment. Potter maybe if Chelsea want rid and feel like they can do it amicably.

Right now I think there's a very good chance we'd end up with Lampard or Gerrard.

For me with should give Southgate the option to carry on until at least the Euros if he wants it.

Agreed. And he'd follow his familiar trait of singling out individuals and victimising them. It would become a chore again.

The fact the current lot actually want to play for England in the first place is a start.

Potter will be available in May.

Anyway, internet experts and grass roots coaches, who would you like to replace Southgate, let's have a chuckle?

What would be the point.

Anyone who suggested Southgate 6 years ago (managerial experience - relegation with Boro) would have been laughed out.

Anyone who suggests anyone who hasnt won the Champions league, twice, will be laughed out.

No one knows who will be a succesful international manager.

And possibly create a team that wins things? The team will be players he picks not inherited like in club football.

If we are getting Pep, fine make the change.

If we are getting an unproven Potter or Howe. Fuck that. Be like starting all ovee again.

Neither of them give me any form of optimism. Lets not pretend Brighton weren't dreadful to watch last season and couldnt score. Howe took Bournemouth down and has spent about £200m at Newcaslte.

They both need to establish themselves further to get the England job imo.

Wed end up with fucking Lampard.

Southgate stays hopefully

And when he decides he wants to go I'd like him to be part of the recruitment process

Joey Barton should be our next manager.

Put your rod away.

Southgate can have the next two tournaments for me with this team of his

Howe might have proven himself at Newcastle by then

Be a struggle for anyone when Kane finishes

Any signs of a top striker coming through any time soon?

Southgate has to stay IMO. Done a wonderful job and the players clearly enjoy playing for him.

The reason we have had a decent team playing well is because we stopped the hiring a name manager and invested in people working in the St George's Park project and working at England at all levels, so it has an interstates system and players feel comfortable in the environment.

Southgate to stay and then looking at the next few years of bringing people through the system for me.

Who's 21s manager?

It was a 50 50 game

Another day we win

The first half foul on kane is a pen for me and the ref was shit

However, for all our posession, i dont think we had enough efforts that needed saving

Maguire was unlucky but other than that, can only remember 2 saves

Lee Carsley, can’t see that progression going down well

Have to agree with that. We just weren't getting through them with any regularity and it became one of those games where I had had a rising sense of inevitable doom as it progressed. I just knew in my bones that Kane was going to miss that penalty - although I didn't envisage him blazing it over. We were in it for sure, but yet again it's a close but no cigar job.

Not sure what Southgate’s level was when he was appointed?
