Mounts Kipper Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 (edited) I was at the Bolton v Fulham game the night Bobby Moore got sent off, think he might have played that night. Would have thought he'd of played in the semi final against leeds at Burnden early 70s. He did play in this game. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/news-and-comment/dave-hadfield-the-night-a-genius-destroyed-a-local-hero-516955.html Edited November 28, 2015 by Mounts Kipper Quote

He was frighteningly skilful, but we managed to contain them. Quote
leigh white Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Best scored at BP in 76 when we beat them 2-1. Quote
Mounts Kipper Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Best scored at BP in 76 when we beat them 2-1. I have no recollection of Best playing even though I would have been there. Quote
gregbwfc Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Best scored at BP in 76 when we beat them 2-1. Was that the game someone threw a handbag at Marsh ? Think BSA scored the winner with a header from a fair way out (or so it seemed). Quote

Guest Blixa Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Not just a great player, probably the first footballer to crossover into the 'celebrity' world for better or worse. A cultural icon. "Where did it all go wrong?" Quote
leigh white Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 My hatred for DMBs hold's no bounds, but being a teen when Best was at his best was a joy on the telly to see his skills. Quote
Whizz Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Remember saying to a barman in Porto, "fuck me that's dead" about a pint of lager. He replied, "George Best" Quote

Gordon Taylor tells a story about breaking his nose at OT the first time Bolton faced Best. He had 3 choices: have it manually pushed back roughly into place, let the doctor take a more professional approach (with a longer delay), or go to hospital (no subs allowed in 1964). Anxious to avoid risking his place in the team he opted for the quickie treatment, only to be told by the coach to stay back "as we need all the excuses we can get" for the 5-0 defeat Best was orchestrating, scoring 2 himself. "Where did it all go wrong?" I think maybe Billy Wright as the first to gain 100 caps (when internationals weren't held every 3 weeks or so), captaining Wolves to back-to-back league titles, and in the summer break between those 2 seasons marrying the senior member of the highest paid female entertainers in the country for a span of 20 years got into 'celebrity' first. Burndens Bogs Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 He would often drift in & out of games and on a bad day he was anonymous, but when he was on song he was unstoppable. Probably one of the classiest players I've ever seen "live" The others being Gazza Klinsmann Gullit Frank Worthington Peter Thompson Quote
jayjayoghani Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 If he wasn't a woman beating alcoholic I'd probably like him more. Yes, of course he was that good. Plus for an ex-Munich doing the punditry on United games, he was quite fair unlike most. When we won at OT the first time, he was the Soccer Saturday pundit and he was very complimentary about us, and saying we fully deserved it Quote
