Fair question. Yes I opposed Iraq in 2003 and had the piss taken out of me roundly on here for going on the anti war marches at the time. I thought Libya was a disaster, and was with Tony Benn on the Syria strikes. My concern isn't necessarily Trump specific, it's that we keep doing this and each time it gets more brazen. Iraq at least had the fig leaf of WMD claims and a coalition. This doesn't even pretend to have international legitimacy. That Trump is in charge just adds an added layer of concern for me. Those previous interventions, however misguided, were at least conducted by people who understood international relations and tried (even if badly) to manage consequences and build some coalition support. Trump's approach is fundamentally different - because it's transactional and erratic. He's openly saying 'we want their oil' without any pretence. He doesn't seem to grasp (or care) that this sets a precedent that Russia, China, and every regional power will exploit. Previous administrations at least understood the norms they were bending. I don't think Trump understands why the norms existed in the first place. It's like the difference between someone who knows the rules and chooses to break them, versus someone who doesn't even comprehend why the rules matter. The former is bad. The latter is genuinely unpredictable and dangerous because there's no framework for understanding what they might do next. So I don't think my position is hypocritical. It's pretty much in keeping with the way I've thought about these things for years. I'll quite happily criticise the UKs foreign policy when I think we're getting it wrong and have got a track record of doing so. Fair point mate, I remember you posting recently about some of the marches you attended (what colour did you dye your hair 😉😂) I’m guessing it’s not the case for many others on here though who have the same concerns. I’m guessing the next few weeks will be interesting. One thing I’m sure we can all be happy about though is the Russian air defence systems that they sold to Venezuela a few years back are obviously shit and further proof that the Russian armoury isn’t what people expected! Must be hard ducking, diving and deflecting from the truth about Dumb Donnie. This is great fun. Great fun You'll probably enjoy it even more under observation in a hospital bed Mr. Bloodvessel. 'Donnie' is doing some great stuff. More to tackle the drug problem than anyone before or probably again. Blessed are the peacemakers Quote
bolty58 Posted January 4 Posted January 4 17 hours ago, Bertie said: Yep - very worrying. Not sure what Trump’s motives are escalating this. Clearly not drugs. Probably not regime change. Oil? Epstein distraction? Doubt will shore up his crumbling MAGA support either given he promised no more wars. Whaddaguy. Whaddalunatic. You clearly have trouble reading. Putin takes (part of) Ukraine and eyes the Baltic states, Trump takes Venezuela and Greenland, Xi Jinping eventually takes Taiwan. The new world order. We should get started on the Lichtenstein, Luxembourg, Andorra and San Marino campaigns immediately. Quote

Ignoring all the other crazy shit he’s done and the Putin love in, his approach to Venezuela and Greenland is fucking scary. Are you Jeremy Corbyn in disguise? He's a fawning Maduro disciple as he was for Chavez. "Socialist valhalla" . Millions have got out of the despotic shit hole. Wanted doing - done. Go Don. Quote
