Parking Fines

No display I don't think. Never really checked. I'll have to see if there's any signs up. Just dumped it and went for the train as hp was full.

Then call Northern Rail* and ask them to pay it

* or whoever has the franchise

I got done in St Annes a few month back. Was driving round for fucking ages trying to find a parking space, then got one right outside the entrance to the pier. I was so delighted I completely forgot to buy a ticket. Think it was £60 if paid within 14 days, rising to £120. I paid the fine the next day as it was clearly my own fault

Still think having to pay for parking at hospitals is a fucking disgrace though. Especially when they're charging staff.

It's a fookin nightmare in St Anne's on a sunny day.

You can get lucky on Salters Wharf and redeem the ticket inside.

Cheers for the tip mate. I'll keep that in mind next time we go.

At lot of hospitals can be close to other places of work and sometimes town centres. If they didn't charge folk would park on there and walk to work

Charging staff is out of order though

That's a decent point. Surely there's a way they could police that though? They could give you a barcoded ticket as you exit the hospital or something? Nobody in their right mind would pretend to be a patient/visitor 5 days a week in order to get free parking close to their place of work.

My other sticking point is; most (if not all) hospital carparks are run by private companies. I know the hospitals get a cut of the profits, but the idea of someone running a business that makes a financial profit from people making unavoidable/necessary hospital visits doesn't sit well with me.

I get what you mean

But, assuming that we should maximising the spend on care, then charging for parking is fine

That said, I guess there's plenty of other waste to sort out in the NHS

I'd be slightly more okay with it if hospital carparks were run by the NHS and they received all the revenue, but it's not and they don't.

Even then, should we really be propping up our health service by forcing nurses and their patients to park?

Edit: Just realised I've inadvertently hijacked the thread. Apologies.

why would anyone want to park in farnworth? I'm currently at Bolton A&E. As well as it being grim as fuck they've charged me £3 for the pleasure.

i bet folk would pretend if it meant they didn't have to pay

A few years back, my ex missus spent a long time in hospital and I had to go visiting every day, cost a couple of quid every time in the meter

Then realised from the reception in the ward you could buy a month pass for about a tenner. To get it you had to give car details, who you were visiting etc, saved a fortune

Not sure if all hospitals do that though

i doubt the nhs just gave the rights to ncp or whoever

and loads of people have to pay to park at work

why should medics be different?

fwiw, both my parents have spent plenty time in fairfield over the last few years

their god daughter is a nurse there and told me not to pay as it was unenforceable

where my dad is now receiving full time nursing care, its free to park

Just got one from parking on Scotts all day.

Parking charge notice. £85 reduced to £50 if paid in 14 days.

Ignore it or am I fucked?

Is it from ParkingEye?

Just got one myself

It was on a private car park at night. All the businesses were shut & it is well signposted that only an hour & half is free parking.

The confusion myself & my passengers had with the signage, is it was unclear if they meant 24/7 or during business hours or what?

Unfortunately I overran the time & now been hit with the £85 fine, £50 if paid in 14 days.

Any ideas from the WW sages?

i mentioned ages back id heard on some consumer show that the law had changed

in some instances, the law had been changed so that on some car parks, the owners could charge a fee relative to their losses

so, if it was shut, theyd struggle to argue theyd lost owt

i was there the other week but was pleasantly surprised that it was only £2 for 24 hours or whatever,a s at Stepping Hill it goes up every 2 hours

got done the other week for leaving my car at east didsbury tram stop over night

just presumed you could

well you can at the weekends, but not during the week

i knew my chances of getting out of it were up when i went online to review the evidence and they had a pic of my car parked next to the sign that says no overnight parking

also got done on the bus lane outside victoria station recently

right cunt that one

one way is bus only, the other way isn't, it's not immediately obvious, but also gave up when i did some googling to find out manc city council made treble the money they normally do since the tram works started

Got done a year and half ago at radcliffe for out of hours. Ignored it. One threatening letter and nothing. Unsure whether this has changed. Got collared at 4.37 am on a Sunday. Probably the only car in it.

What were you doing driving round Radcliffe at 4:37 on a Sunday morning?

Edit - just realised you meant the parking not loitering around bus lanes :D

aye, same here, 4am i got snapped

seemed like a fair cop so just paid it

reason why i paid  the bus lane one was i was in the mrs car and she was passenger, so we split and it was only £15, seemed easier to pay and couldn't be arsed going toe to toe with manchester council who've taken loads of cash already on that stretch

I got a fine through for Victoria station one (Hunts Bank), some fucker with my number plates cloned on their van. I'm a white van man too, mines a transit, the one in the photo was a box van. Took months to sort, had to get the police involved.

Have you noticed that they tell you to ring the number at the top of the notice they send you but there's only a fax number? ...arseholes!

I'm sure I read these private ones have got absolutley no legal clout to charge you a fine.

I might be making this up though, so don;t come chasing me if the bailiffs take your telly

Edit

Loads of info here if you can be arsed wading through it
