It allowed trotter to be more effective driving forward. Away from home against a passing team he's never going to work hard enough to wrestle some control. Its just like it was when he was playing regularly and we were shite during September. How the management can't see it (or won't acknowledge it is beyond me) Derik is miles away in terms of class and reading the game but is dropped. I'd wager Thorpe has done twice the defensive work of Trotter. Thorpe has done OK alongside our little scouser etc, but trotter has been garbage with everyone. He's not a defensive midfielder but isn't providing any strong running in attack that he showed against vale in the first half. Its no coincidence that when he plays we don't dominate or have any midfield control. OK he scored against Grimsby but they dominated the second half.
