Sending 24k back would be quite a good thing to brag about if 1) you wasn’t letting in record numbers at the same time and 2) you’re not paying folk 1000s to go back home.

Last week you were posting that appeals were up/high. These are all the same dynamics. Rather than spending 2 years not launching the Rwanda scheme the Tories could have put the time and money into processing applications, once you do the numbers leaving and the number appealing increase.

Seems there’s some doubt about the figures.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/clyw8jw11jwo

‘But the claim is misleading. The government's latest figures show that only 6,339 of these were "enforced returns" The majority were "voluntary returns" - and a significant number of these happen without the government's direct involvement or even knowledge.

Been saying that for a while, and whilst the information is out there, it doesnt seem to matter.

Seems to be a feature of modern politics: the art of spin, manipulation, misrepresentation etc etc.

No wonder so many people have a dim view of politicians as a whole, which is so unfortunate given there are a number who are decent, hard working individuals, with a passion for service to their constituents.

I had the same conversation with our County Councillor (Conservative), she was door stepping for the upcoming locals and has been banging on doors for the past month. I told her I voted for Starmer nationally but she will get my vote because she is hard working and conscientious, she tells me she loves being a councillor and I know she is very motivated.

Not seen any of the other lot, I think they know they can't compete.

Same here.

She's an awesome councillor.

last time round, she was the only one going on the stump too.

A soul destroying activity no doubt, and wouldn't be for me, but perhaps doing so is requisite for the best person.

Just found out in addition to paying council tax I now need to pay £60 a year to have my green food and garden waste bin emptied

I'll just stick it in the black general waste bin instead

When did Russia invade Ukraine again?

Even you can do better than that.

So we can blame the war in Ukraines for anything negative?

You. May. Want. To. Tell. Boby.

Bolton now collect paper/cardboard once a month. Mine is full after a week. Grey bin collected fortnightly has loads of room, likewise, in there it goes then.

Bergundy glass/plastic bin is still fortnightly, who (apart from the odd WW pisscan) needing that?

Families often get through plenty of burgundy type recycling.

The beige bin largely makes sense. So long as folk squash their boxes.

Green bin idea of making folk pay is utterly stupid.

Once composted there is product with some value. The companies that do the process can offload that, even if it's not a .assize earner.

Increased fly-tipping adds a direct cost, and is likely to consist of mixed waste which will then go to the incinerator, or worse still landfill.

Really don't get what appears to be short term thinking.

If necessary, some increased funding from central government should be given to help.

our green (food and garden waste) is every week - we could get away with that being every 2 weeks but it might start to stink with the food bags so no issue there

black - general waste - is every two weeks - we have two of them anyway from when the little uns were little and getting through loads of nappies - no issue there

blue - paper - it was every 2 weeks but is going to 4, will get by

brown - glass cans and plastic - this is every 4 fucking weeks, doesn't help that everything plastic goes in, but this always fills up in 2 weeks, mainly with cans and bottles of booze, and have to put in their own bags and take to the tip - used to use the neighbours for excess as she lived alone, didn't drink much and was retired so away at her gaff in france loads, but she's moved house and the new neighbours use it

when i was on cans you could get more in, but bottles are less forgiving

I don't think you could/should chuck anything meat based into one

We’re supposed to collect food waste and stick it in with the garden stuff but frankly, life is too short and I suspect it will stink sat there for 2 weeks so it goes in the kichen bin with the rest of the rubbish in a bin bag.

Correct. It’s for organic waste. Bolton used to sell bags of compost at Raikes Lane from the recycled waste.  Not seen it for a while though but hopefully, it’s still going to nourish the soil in some way. I’ve gone all Greta.😳

Home composter?

Personally, I'd be wary of meat/dairy unless it's sealed from rats.

If it is sealed, and you can get sufficient heat to destroy all pathogens, then you'd be OK.

When we put it in the green bin, it goes into a process where it is shredded and heated, which guarantees all pathogens destroyed.

Strangely, as it can contain bits of non-compostable stuff like wire/plastic from the garden or lazy cunts, then (iirc) it can't be sold as suitable for growing veggies with, like you might find on something more specific.

One of those legal things, hence it's recommended as a soil improver.

Don't know why it's not available to buy in small bags at the tip, but it is available from North West Turf in Farnworth, in small bags or bulk. Sold as "organic soil" which it isn't really, but never mind.

Cheap as chips in comparison to a proprietary brand, and a good addition to the soil. Just don't try to grow anything in it on its own, especially when fresh.

I've used loads of it for improving customers' soil and my own.

Hopefully I'll be making enough of my own garden compost in the future though, so won't need to buy any, and it's better.

😊 All a bit technical for me. If it’s green, (organic) it’s compostable. If not, its in the black bin. I believe egg shells are a grey area. I don’t have my own compost heap/bin but do take too much time deciding what does or doesn’t go in the green bin. I think I’m on the right side of these things though.😊

NWTS Supplied all the materials for my garden landscaping. 👍

Therein is the issue with the word "organic". For the lentil munchers (with good reason) it means free from all sorts of nasties.

In general terms, it means carbon based.

Egg shells are excellent in compost, so leave them in. Do not put tea bags into your own compost, even of they're compostable- they're not under domestic conditions.

I grind my own coffee beans. Can I put the grounds on the soil?
It’s like gardeners question time.😊

I don't know much about it, but don't teabags contain traces of plastic as well? If so, then obviously that wouldn't be good for putting in the ground.
