Difficult one. Our nipper went through the whole process. She’s young for her school year so she’s just turned 9 when it all kicked off. The pressure put on kids at a young age was an eye opener.

And the whole cottage industry built up around tutors tends to skew it to those kids whose parents can afford the tutoring.

They do get fantastic results, but so they should if they’re skimming off the brightest kids with supportive and motivated parents.

I’d definitely would have preferred working in one when I was still in that game, that’s for sure.

So, dunno really. Classic splinters in my arse if I’m honest.

They are skimming off those who can afford the tutoring as well - certainly not just the brightest. The Grammar ours go to is just like a minor public school - all boys and all girls divisions included - and a LOT of parents if they didn't have access to it would have sent them to public school. With my youngest going to the comp the difference in wages and income is marked from the cars in the car park to the liefstyles/houses of their rexpetive friends. Now, you could say that's down to brighter people having more money, but we know this is a falsehood.

If the system was such a success you would have those in counties where the system was never ended - like Kent - doing better educationally than the country as a whole. That simply isn't the case, its just another tiered system which fails more than it helps and certainly those who don't game the system - of which 99% do. I think my daugther's know of one person who went to their school who didn't have tutoring for the Kent Test.

On individual terms you can get all emotive - my middle daughter is thriving at the school, my eldest, whilst achieving a far higher grade in the Kent Test struggled a lot more with the type of learning (she's since been diagnosed as Autistic) by rote and the balance only on purely academic subjects, but overall you have to say it gives a lot of people a free pass to private style education which the state pays for.

we used to be, now we're getting what we deserve....or something like that. Only Farage can save us

Getting what we deserve?

But surely 14 years of Tory rule should have returned us to the top spot?

maybe, but there is a difference between "expecting it to happen" which is where many of us are and "wanting it to happen" which is where you seem to be 😁

Seem? Well, this seems to be a waste of my time. That is 900 nicker in any shop you're lucky enough to find one in. And you're complaining about 200? 😁😁

Mortgage lenders are panicking. NatWest went up today. I bit the bullet yesterday

Looks like you made the right decision 👍

Just seen this posted on FB. Maybe of interest to anyone who might be in this position.

It was announced yesterday in the budget that there will be a reduction in Right to Buy discounts to buy your council house

So dependant upon how long you have rented you could be entitled to a massive discount

In simple terms if the house was worth £100000 you could get up to a 70% reduction

So get your house for £30000 and you don’t need a deposit

However this is soon changing to 25% so same house will cost you £75000

It’s an absolute no brainer

Given this 70% discount you could own the house in 10 years for less a month than you now pay in rent

So now is the time to ring your local authority and tell them you want to buy the house and it takes about 3 month for them to tell you what you can buy it for and then contact me or Jenna Louise Salmon as we’ve done hundreds of these

The government are screwing most of us over so take the discount while you can and save yourself tens of thousands of pounds if you decided to buy at a later date

Mortgages have gone up a bit

still nowhere near the average they were when Our Liz did her thing.

Gilt yields have gone up more in a day than after the Truss budget. That doesn’t mean that they will go up as much as they did then. Gilt yield increases usually mean interest rate increases.
The ‘markets’ haven’t responded favourably to the budget.

My gilt yields are identical to how they were yesterday.

Reform voter! 😅😅

Tip Top banter.
Is that one up or down from a stooge?

At least you didn’t mention my age so I guess that’s something. Or maybe not.

It was a genuine comment to someone I know and was concerned he’d made the right decision. For what it’s worth.

I don’t ‘know’ It’s why I said ‘looks like’

You didn’t ask a question.
You made your usual sarcastic comment with poor punctuation.
I’ll leave it there.

After reading the fine print I see that market expectations are starting to head south. No surprises there then.
