gonzo Posted October 30, 2024 Posted October 30, 2024 For starters Drink and Drug 'emergencies' need their own departments. Hordes of genuinely ill or injured folk surrounded by acholics and drugged up cunts just isn't right. Quote

Farrelli Posted October 30, 2024 Posted October 30, 2024 Great performance by Rachel Reeves. How Sunak can stand there and try and take the moral high ground is beyond a joke. Quote
royal white Posted October 30, 2024 Posted October 30, 2024 Looks like the rent will be going up for tenants. Quote

A higher SDLT could discourage anyone planning to become a landlord from doing so, while it could also discourage existing landlords from expanding their portfolios. This may reduce the availability of rental properties and result in rent hikes. Quote

On the flip side, if it results in fewer buy to lets, it could increase the stock of homes for first time buyers and may stimulate that market. Maybe. Could do. Quote
mickbrown Posted October 30, 2024 Posted October 30, 2024 Must admit, I’m struggling to give a fuck on VAT for private schools and capital gains tax. Quote

And maybe get rid of a load of unscrupulous landlords. I'm hoping this government will bring a 'fair rents' cap into the private sector. Some rental figures are eyewatering. Junior is at Uni in Exeter and shares a 3-bedroomed house with 2 friends, they each pay £195 per week in rent before bills. Quote

The extent to which I care about VAT on private schools is that I think the governors might resort to getting rid of bursaries/scholarships to recoup the cost, which will only remove an opportunity for working class children Quote
Spider Posted October 30, 2024 Posted October 30, 2024 If you can afford to send your kids to Hogwarts, you can surely just work harder for the extra money it’ll now cost. Maybe have 4 holidays instead of 5. after all, kids are more important. Quote

The 40% rates relief is good though. However it's still some hike for a business with a few staff. Quote
