Salford Trotter Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 Choosing the right school for your children, both primary and secondary, can be really stressful. I reflect on the difficulty of our own decisions and we ended up sending our two girls (after sitting the 11plus) to a Grammar school over 13 miles away yet my son's school was only 2 miles away. I don't envy any parent going through this difficult period. Good luck to you all! Quote
radcliffe white Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 good stuff and good luck with it cheers Got the small matter of leasehold only got 50 years remaining but get there Quote
little whitt Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 It most certainly isn't, I know of schools sending their most challenging kids home when OFSTED visit. I've had a lot of dealing with St James though, and it is a good school without doubt, but not necessarily for everyone. both daughters went St James one is in the last year there I had go to Church for about 3 years each for both of them Quote

Tonge moor green jacket Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 we was very impressed by little lever probably the best open evening out of the lot , but out of the way for us Not sure where you're going, but check out school buses, some surprising routes. My neighbours lad gets one from bury road up to totty no problem. Sone thing is definitely going right for mine at LL- he came home having played football in pe and scored! He dosent like playing it and always gets picked last so for him to do that and come back pleased as punch is amazing! Quote

My ex went to church every week without fail to get her kids into Canon Slade, she even got into it and freindly with some parisoners. It’s making sure the kids respect what you’ve done for them and making the most of what you’ve afforded them too, there’s drop-outs that make my piss boil at the same time. I hope he picks Little Lever for his child, at least it’s a language school and he’ll need that. Quote
Alf Hartigan Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 It's a fucking lottery, end of. If a school is performing badly, then you can guarantee it's trying to improve. I commend Ofsted on this. Quote

I don't envy any parent going through this difficult period. Good luck to you all! Yep, It’s a stressful time. Two years until the middle child has to go through the 11 plus. Then one more - trying to say it doesn’t matter but making them work for the exam is tough for everybody- especially for the kids. The faith school we looked around was worse than the comp. No way are we are sending any of ours to a Catholic school. It is about application and talent as well, my dad was headmaster of George Toms for 10 years, yes it’s a small and poor catchment area, but kids did and still do, achieve. Quote
Casino Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 What is your experience of Catholic schools that leads you to that decision? Quote
Not in Crawley Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 Just not a fan of any faith schools, smacks of indoctrination to me. Schools are a personal choice for any child and parent, but it’s not something any one of us felt comfortable with when we went round, from the school houses, to the crosses in every room and having to take RE to GCSE (not that I’m against that at all, I took RE and was going to do it at A Level) but the lack of choice was a bit odd. As I say though, it’s a personal choice for any family, we are not religious so it felt a bit strange for all of us. Quote
Casino Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 Fair enough I dont do religion but married a catholic so kids went through school in RC schools Neither have come out feeling the need to thrash themselves with burning branches every morning its interesting too that theres no requirement to attend church to get in, unlike the CofE school Quote
Not in Crawley Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 Yes, I thought that was strange. We went round as, like most Catholic schools, it had good results. I said neither myself or Mum were Catholic and that I personally didn’t believe in God. Wasn’t an issue apparently. I’m sure most kids treat it as just a school, and the religious element plays no real part, it just wasn’t for my eldest. Quote

I was surpraised to learn that a language is not compulsory any more up to gcse. Quote
Whites man Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 The faith school we looked around was worse than the comp. No way are we are sending any of ours to a Catholic school. I may be misreading but what do you see as the differences between faith schools and Catholic schools? Quote
Not in Crawley Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 I was saying that for me, they are one and the same. Quote
Whites man Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 Fair enough, just a clumsy sentence then, no worries. Quote
Not in Crawley Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 How so? The Catholic reference referring back to the faith school in the first sentence. Clumsy reading, I fear ;-) Quote
Whites man Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 Can be read as 2 separate sentences . It is a fair assumption on reading it that you rejected the faith school as it was inferior but the Catholic one was rejected for being Catholic. You bigot. Quote
tarian1979 Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 House is up for sale. Main reason for better schools (need more space too). Her indoors is Catholic. I'm not. Won't n a Catholic school though (not a house vice capt like casino) Quote
