  • Because when they refund people, they give them a discount off the next booking and people are too fucking stupid to realise they're having the piss taken from them. It's a bit like the Tory hand

Lol the content of the article has changed as previously he was denying having said it.

We fly from Leeds at 6:10 next week . There are 4 jet 2 flights within 20 mins of each other which is busy for an airport size of Leeds. Apparently it is chaos early doors as people are turning up early but a real doddle later in the day.

We have decided agaimst the night before bag drop

Should be flying 7ish am on friday from MCR with J2

Brought taxi forward a bit, so as to be at airport 3 hours before the flight

Lets see how it goes

took a lad I know over 3 hours to get through security this morning

Full employment for those who want to work, that’s the benefit of Brexit, those who don’t want to work, pull the benefits and support yourself. Exactly what I want from Brexit.

People dont want to work though mounts.

Thats why without foreign workers the whole job is fucked.

They didnt come here for weather did they.

So brexit is to blame for the airline staffing crisis, not Covid?

Id say its major factor. The boss of Jet2 wouldn't say so otherwise.

Major hotels over this way are struggling for staff now all the polaks fucked off.

Litterally 3 streets behind them are houses filled with dole heads currently on their second maccies breakfast about to crack their first can after the school run.

It will have to change, we’ve let this benefit society go on for to long, you get offered a job you work, pull the benefits if you won’t take the job, it’s the only way forward.

P.S. sorry to pollute this joyful holiday thread with political shite.

Not sure who with, but from mcr

Manchester T3 no issues this morning. Internal BA flight can only check in 2.30 hours before flying but had a brew while waiting.

Check in pretty quick and efficient. Security about 20 mins or so

Are we seeing problems at Liverpool?

We are 5 minutes from the airport so makes sense for us. With online check also done hoping we are straight to security.

Liverpool don't have enough flights per day for them not to be able to cope.

I flew out last Tues to Malaga, checked-in 4.35, pint of Moretti 4:55. Fucking £7.29.

Took off on time, no probs at Malaga, landed 10:55, on the train at 11:45.

well, yes

we will be there 3 hours before which is about right, isnt it?

was tempted by the twilight drop, but its prob 45 mins from work or similar from home

with it being J2, im confident they will prioritise people in the queues

Heathrow T5 a breeze too if anyone is coming through here

Recon im getting to the point where a holiday abroad on my own is my only realistic option of a break.

And that would mean working while away too.

Wife works in a school & my little dickheads are still in school/college...so going holiday time is just too expensive.

But a week while they are all at school for me would be sound.

You’re all heart. I’m sure your wife and kids will enjoy the rest.🤣

My comment was firmly tongue in cheek. We are only doing drop off as it is so close and if we don't and queues are long missus and step daughter will do my head in, which given it will be 3am is highly likely anyway.

The frustration is that there is nothing you can really do about. Given we are on first batch of flights out people turning up early for later flights can only hamper us but given check in only opens at 3 if we done on line and bags sorted hoping we can through as others are waiting for bags.

I would stop anyone using fast track whose flight is not due in next 2.5 hours and ban anyone from using it who checks in late, just tough shit.

that's what Mr Heapy seems to be suggesting

i'd say it's combination of loads of staff being furloughed / sacked because of covid, and brexit/uk apathy making it harder to recruit

Part of the issue is obviously the levels of security clearance required for certain roles at an airport. You can’t just call the local job centres and as for a dozen pilots, air crew, aircraft fuelling operatives, baggage handlers, aircraft cleaners, check-in staff, Border Security Officers, etc.

Full employment means that the jobs on shift patterns starting at 3am for minimum wage are not being taken up because who were doing are moving into better paid jobs or better hours (skilling up was a solution to the cost of living crisis remember) .
It has left a gap at the bottom, if people are willing and/or unable to fill those jobs what is the solution ?

If folk wont work despite job offers then stop the benefits.
