Looking at a long girls weekend witht the girls in Albufeira. Close to bars and restaurants and not a shit hole. Im 35 now the 1* holiday apartments are a thing of the past. Anyone any recommendations?

Slight edit so I can agree, but whilst there are non shift jobs at minimum wage you will struggle to fill the lowest jobs, these were typically filled by migrant workers.

Employers will have to pay more wages to encourage folk to take the work, before  bringing in more immigrant workers to do lower paid jobs we should be encouraging benefit scroungers to get back to work, full employment will reduce the benefits bill and drive wage increases. For me curtailing freedom of movement was one of the main reason to vote to leave the EU.

So a direct impact of Brexit is increased wage costs for employers which has to lead to higher prices ? Because we have curtailed freedom of movement ?

So immigration was a factor in the Brexit vote ? 
 

I have said many times I voted Remain because I did not understand the benefits of Brexit, I still do not. Having a willing Polish lad chuck my case onto a plane rather than paying more for a British lad to do it has not convinced me.

Not immigration per se, I am in favour of controlled immigration just not freedom of movement, if the effect of freedom of movement means we are paying lazy British folk to sit at home then that is intrinsically flawed and needs addressing.  I am sure if you were a baggage handler and you got a better wage you would be very happy.

It's waaaay more complex than just saying I cant find a job so pay me dole.

Rigging their income is an art form in itself.

From turning up to interviews covered in food dressed like a tramp to feigning mental health.

I’m not under estimating it I grew up on a council estate and saw it first hand, seen it all.

It’s not easy but needs to be dealt with and that type of culture needs to be changed and will take time and perseverance from consecutive governments.

Bloke in our street works at Manc airport and is lucky that he works directly for them but he’s told me that Swissport who do some check ins, baggage handling and other service at the airport got rid of a load of staff when the furlough payments ended.

When they needed staff again they contacted the old staff but offered them zero hours contracts on minimum wage with some on a split shift, so you start at 2am work til 6am then they wanted you back to work 11am to 3pm as an example. 
The managers can’t work out why no one is applying or leaving when induction has finished which is 2 to 4 weeks of 9 til 5.

Like you would work those hours on NMW when loads of alternatives pay more with better hours

One of my mates, her bloke works at Luton Airport, and was saying pretty much the same this weekend. They're not getting anybody willing to work for circa £10 per hour anymore. Prior to Brexit, they had loads of "foreigners" working for them, the numbers had been dropping off, but COVID totally killed it, as anybody who was working there has now either fucked off back home, or is working at one of the massive logistics centers a few miles up the road at MK. He confirms that they're definitely trying to get people in on zero hours contracts, so no surprise that there is very little take up

He reckons the only way they'll get back to full staffing, during those shitty hours, is to be offering at least £15/£16 per hour with a guaranteed amount of hours....which of course means everything else will need to increase in price

not just that, but on a zero hours contract - that's why I always smile when they talk about how many job vacancies there are at present, as if it's a zero hours gig, then it could in theory only be a few hours per week (I do appreciate that some people like a zero hours contract, but it's not something the majority of people can really work with)

36hrs a week job.
They employ 4 people to do 9hrs each, so they've got a "bank" of staff and the governemtn say that's 4 more off the dole.

Zero hours contracts are bollocks.

One of my daughters is working in the Lakes at the minute, they're struggling so much to get workers that the NMW has been put to one side and they are paying a minimum of a tenner an hour regardless of age.

They're encouraged at work to try to poach other young uns when they go out at nights or at least get them to consider a second job, and lots of the employers are sorting accommodation as well.

That's in the pubs/cafes/hospitality/retail areas but I've a good mate who is Polish and when he first came here he worked on a farm up there and so I've no idea who the fuck is doing those jobs.

If you're not willing to go abroad maybe find an underground dentist over here

Mate of mine, an ex-fireman, went working on security doing the x-Ray, drug wipe, frisking lines. He was made redundant at the start of lockdown. He even asked if they weren’t considering furlough but was told no, by finishing all the staff they can be re-employed on better (for the employers) contracts.

He successfully applied for a firefighter job at British Nuclear Fuels. Manchester airport contacted him to give him his start date and acted as though he ought to have informed them of his inavailability. They were told to fuck off. 
 

Manchester airport have worked in a similar way to the Wetherspoons chain.

Just back from 10 days in Hisarounu/Oludeniz. Fantastic place if anyone is thinking about going. Like most places the prices have gone up quite considerably however it’s still fairly cheap. Coming back through Dalaman airport was a breeze however when getting into Manchester I can’t understand why they have 4 staff on border control for adults and only 2 for families. It’s been the same everytime I’ve come back, 3am kids screaming and kicking off yet only 2 staff.

I flew back into Stansted the other week. The passport queue for folk from the UK was an hour long, the one for those from the EU was about 5 minutes. We weren't allowed to go to the EU desks, we had to queue for those ridiculous passport scanners in the UK section (that never seem to work). I was till queueing when all EU passport holders had gone through, but we still couldn't switch queues as another flight had just landed, apparently

Utter madness, we actually got penalised for no longer being in the EU, in a UK airport 🙂
