Fountain of all knowledge to say you think that Anderson will come in on his home ground, after about 10 days rest 🙄

This coming from the one who said it'd be 5-0?

While the aussies would feel very hard done to, it could be 3 0 England now

Theres nobody can argue that us being level would flatter us

Said that before, could easily be 3-0 / 2-1 either one

I think the 2nd test was prob fair enough for them to win but we couldve nicked it, but we shouldve closed out the first

One thing that surpises me is that boland and the back up spinner are close to their team

If the team batting 4th wins the game (as they have twice so far), scores are obviously going to be very close, so I'm not setting much stall by that data.

Even as I’m writing this I’m not convinced the point I’m making below fully supports my perspective, as it’s early and I’ve not fully thought the maths through and/or got time to compare to other test series…

But does the fact that on each chasing  occasion, for one to get within 43 runs and the others to have gone to 2/3 wickets not validate the stat more, as both the runs and the wickets are very close?

I’d be surprised if many other series’ have got stats as close as that. (But as I say I may be wrong)

On the face of it I think it’s a good stat that validates how close it’s been.

I sad yesterday that Cummins did not seem to want to bowl the spinner, ( to be clear nothing to do with Archer !! 😂😎). The knock on from that is the other bowlers are called on more, once you are through Starc and Cummins the drop off to Boland and Marsh is pretty steep.

Woods and Woakes both had very good games at Headingley.

I doubt they will risk Robinson so either Jimmy plays which is the emotional call, or Tongue. It is a tough one.

Foakes for Bairstow seems an obvious change. With YJB averaging only 23 so far in the series. (Almost identical record to Warner) . I think it is unfair to think YJB could come back from nearly a year out and play as a batsman/keeper without any issues.

I reckon Australia might go to OT without a spinner, playing both all rounders. They’d be content with a draw to retain.

They also have a call to make on Warner, awful last tour here and struggling again. Even Smith has only had one good innings.

If England can tighten up their fielding it puts massive pressure and their batsmen. I know it is not linear but not dropping Marsh in first innings and the scores change massively.

It might be linear, we’ll never know.

Our ability to take 20 wickets is fundamental

What I meant is saying we dropped Marsh on 13 and he went on to make 100+ plus so we can 'knock' 80 or so off their total does not work , as if you change any point in history you do not know the impact on other events 😀. Have you not seen Hot Tub Time Machine ? 😂😂

Taking catches would be a good idea though

I got what you meant and agree, to the extent that we’ll never know! It might be linear!

2027 Ashes has no Northern Test how fucked up is that ?

Trent Bridge got one? Maybe they class anything past Birmingham as North.

Think this would be my 11 for Old Trafford

I did this earlier today, picked exactly same team, same positions as well.

You obviously know your cricket.... 😁

Brave selection.

Bairstow is still likely to score more runs than Moeen.

Can Moeen get the requisite wickets/hold up an end- OT usually offers some turn?

If Foakes plays, do you need a decent spinner to get the edges and misses that allow catches/stumpings to be taken by a good keeper?

Difficult deliberations.
