The Managerial Roundabout

Shrewsbury potting Cotterill is an odd one,

Spurs possibly seeking a new manager around Christmas, not sure how he will do.

Gerrard to Leeds is rumoured.

Uri Geller to Wigan?

I know he’s not a manager but Standard Liege fans seem gutted we’ve got Fergal Harkin to the extent that some are saying he saved them from relegation despite having no budget. Sounds positive.

  • Are you serious? The guy brought us some fucking brilliant moments  that we’ll never forget. Yeah, it didn’t end up great but ffs.

Aye, left him out as he wasn't PL but that's two

I guess you might find more the further you go back

Between jogger brown for manager and reading just 1 page of the politics thread for the first time in months, i've read more bollocks in 20 minutes than I've seen in ages

Stayed away from here, Bolton, BWFC or all 3?!

Seems a bit extreme when there have been far worse/more unbearable/far worse managers/less exciting/ periods in BWFCs history

Crack on though if it’s the hope of a Phil Brown revolution that gets your juices flowing again.

Stayed away because I'm not a fan of Evatt-Ball, listened to the commentaries and watched the odd match on the Hart-TV

We need a spark to light that touch paper and get things fizzing in my opinion... Brown might be it or might not but a " big character" what is needed.

However it is all hypothetical bollocks because we all know what is going to happen... just like post Tranmere, everyone will have their hols and report back for training like nothing ever happened and Oliver will put a spin on it. In the words of the Derek Amitri song... nothing ever happens and we'll all sing along like before.

Here's to mid table dross and complaining about refs because we are a massive club and deserve better.

Fuck me the Oxford game was massively disappointing and things need an improvement to get over the hump and get promoted but some of the reactions are as if we've been shit all season and got relegated on a record low points total.

Don't get me wrong the performance at Wembley was unacceptable and I was fuming on the day and would happily have fucked the entire lot off. But had we played like we know we can we'd have gone up.

We finished 3rd with a possibility (granted a slim one) of going up automatically on the final day. Perhaps a few tweaks playing a left footer at LCB and ensuring that the bench has the options in it to freshen things up.

No no no, sir.

We need the managerial prowess of a man that has just been relegated from the national league 🤦‍♂️

Phil Brown was part of a golden era for the club, and there's a time he could have been disappointed not to get the job here. However, football moves on. He still has a role to play at some clubs, but not one on an upwardly mobile trajectory. Mousinho, Buckingham, McKenna, De Zerbi et al are all up and coming young managers that move clubs forward (before they get tempted by the bigger jobs). Contrary to popular belief, we have one of those managers in Evatt. The Play Off final was incredibly disappointing, but to lose him and have Phil Brown in charge would leave me shaking my head (I don't need to worry since at least half of that won't happen).

I wouldn't blame Evatt for leaving. The reaction of the fanbase has been way OTT over the last two weeks.

All the talk of players lacking big game mentality has, worryingly (reading comments from both Evatt and Jones) seeped into the players. They didn't lose a single game to their play off rivals during the season, and won one / lost one against Derby. In terms of those big games, only Pompey got the better of us. Sure, the Blackpool and Wigan games were disappointing for fans because of the derby aspect but over a season, only Pompey lost fewer games. The players don't lack mentality at all. There were simply 2 better teams than us (Oxford weren't over the season but were in a one off).

I hope Evatt stays and i hope he sticks to his principles. There needs to be a little refresh of the squad for sure, and there'll be discussions about cashing in on players out of contract in 12 months time. Criticism of Santos and others is crazy!

With him in charge, I fully expect us to challenge again (this idea it'll be more competitive I just don't buy - Stockport will be a mid table club, Wrexham won't get up again with Phil in charge (see my comment above about young managers), Barnsley will fall away. Peterboro will flirt around the play offs. Birmingham have a lot of issues to sort, I could go on.

Stability is key and we'll be reet.

... and if you're feeling emotional about it, just remember we were a day or two away from watching AFC Bolton in a Northern Premier League game next season.

Some reasonable points there but there is a mentality problem. The manager and club captain have both recognised it and commented on it and as fans we've seen enough evidence of it this past couple of seasons.

We're a good side, Evatts a good manager and we were good enough to be promoted, no question.   This is what adds to the frustration of missing out.

But weve proved  we are not good enough! We had two chances, and fucked both up!

We were the 3rd best team in the division. That and our points total prove we were good enough to go up.

Fair play mate. It’s a good post.

It sounds like one of mine pre Leyton Orient away.

Part of me still believes this.

But some very poor 2nd half of the season performances/results/halves; Leyton Orient, Wigan, Blackpool, Exeter, Shrewsbury, Barnsley, Derby, Stevenage, Northampton, Shrewsbury, Oxford have left me really unsure.

He’ll still be here, I’m convinced of that. So he needs a really good start, including some key victories against the likes of Wigan, Blackpool, Birmingham, Wrexham, Stockport.
