Malkinsons speech, whilst brimming with justified fury, was also perfectly delivered with regards the poor woman who now has the additional guilt of a 17 year jail sentence for an innocent man to add to her anguish.

He made it as much about her as about him.

Hope the rest of his life and hers are full of joy, they really do deserve it.

Back to the topic, obviously don't know the case, but I wonder how a guilty verdict can be achieved if the lad simply wasn't there.

I know DNA evidence has now cleared him, but what evidence was there?

He agreed to come in with other suspects to appear before the victim, obviously expecting this would clear his name, and he was the one she selected.

Just read if (and it's a big if) he gets any compensation, he'll have to give some back for bed and board.

Heard him on the radio this morning explaining that.  Incredibly he’ll have to pay the prison service for his stay as basically he wasn’t entitled to be there  as he was innocent!

Wouldn't have thought that would be the be all and end all.

Surely he had an alibi etc. Just seems weird.

Anyway, hope he gets to enjoy the rest of his life.

He was staying at a mates house doing a bit of security work. Most days are the same so they couldn't be certain when or where he was.

Surely it's the responsibility of the prosecution to prove he was at the crime, rather than him showing he wasn't.

The crime happened this century, so perhaps a bit surprising that cctv, road cameras, phone data etc couldn't show where he was, or wasn't.

I've seen bits and pieces on TV where experts have explained that witnesses regularly give conficting information about identities, just seems odd that being picked out would condemn him. Surely other stuff backed it up.
