I dont get the lack of appreciation for maghoma

He may have been the 3rd best of our midfielders but only because of how good the other 2 were

Good performances all over

Im with you on this , thought his second half performance was very good (only saw the second half , Cheers @gonzo )

He is younger than Thomason and has played a lot fewer games. Definitely a player in there.

Sheehan was brilliant , fully looking like the player we signed him to be i.e. a replacement for Kieran Lee. IMO Sheehans injury extended Lees career .

Personally I think we lack players with pace & power. we have players with pace , we have players with power but not both together.  I look at adebanjo and think he should be another Nathan Blake , Morley , Sheehan & Dempsey are great players but not a Pollock , Tofting, Frandsen Or Thompson.

Two linesmen who couldn’t keep up with play and a ref who was scared of making a decision.
As a team of officials I reckon they’re as bad as we’ve had this season.

On this incident, Vic gets first touch and then Charles, who looks off side. The linesman did not flag but he stood on the spot. I assume ha asks the ref if Vic touched it, ref confirms and off side is given. Looks like they got it right tbh.

Enjoyed it as much as you can enjoy a defeat

GT, JS and VA all did very well

Not arsed about going out

Not arsed about the EFL trophy now Wigan are out

Concentrate on the league, and with those levels of performance we saw tonight more than confident we'll go up

Maghoma was a passenger first half but second half much better

Bringing Iredale on as left CB helped Ashworth deal better with their attacker & shifted Toal over to the right were he is much more comfortable no negative reflection on Forrester who was decent.

Thomason was great , but Vic was a revelation, receiving the ball much earlier suits him & his close control has improved exponentially, he was much better than Dion tonight.

Disallowed goal was a sickener , but in the end the defeat might be a blessing.

Would love to see our running stats for that game, we were outstanding in possession and out of it, winning the ball back attacking with intensity every player put a shift in. Vics been a different player the last 3 games, Sheehan and Thomason as others have said brilliant. Top performance whites .

Surprised no-one mentioned Santos, think he added another million on his price tonight

Aye, he’s a beast, put decent prem striker in his back pocket for most of the evening.

Charles movement to lose his marker for our goal was quality.

We can go out with our heads held high and it’s perhaps a blessing that we’re out of this cup.

Just BSM winners and Lg1 Champions it is then.

Yep played well, and a different style of play today with him not walking it out from the back

As Vic shoots, Charles is offside and because he touches it, it's no goal.
If he'd left it, then it would have been a perfectly good goal that they'd have still disallowed.

I thought the officials were piss poor tonight.

Our strike force are looking like a proper partnership now and not just two players who run about a lot.  Vic looks like he's arrived. Calm, using his size and the ball is sticking

Bodes well for the run in 👏

Excellent performance all the players coped well against premier league opposition over the 2 games this should be a great confidence booster for the rest of the season!

Regarding Maghoma I wouldn’t say bang average he reminds me a little of ameobi the way he wants the ball and looking to move with it, but when the balls lost his head dips

He’s terrible without the ball, not effective enough when he has the ball,  saw second half he was attempting to get involved more tracking and tackling but he’s very weak with that side of his game, he is better on the ball but doesn’t make up for his weakness without the ball, he’s at the right place to improve if he listens and grafts like Thomason has done, I’ll trust Evatt to make right call on him though.

Great performance, especially the second half. Thought GT was immense and Vic also played very well, as did Sheehan.

Not sure if its cos we played so well, but they weren't very good at all, thought I was watching a league game at time, not us versus a premier league side.

ALthough its a shame we have been knocked out the cup as I would've liked to have gone on a bit of a run, at least we wont have a more of a fixture pile up.

Maghoma is a class above. He may be a bit inconsistent & still buying into 'the Evatt way' but he can do thing & in ways that others can't.

George, I always supported but he's exceeding beyond all expectations.

Losing so closely, with huge respect gained is not to be sniffed at. Reducing the fixture backlog is no bad thing tbh.

hes that x factor

a player who can create stuff with a bit of skill nobody else can

we didnt have it v barnsley last year

he has a turn of pace too

if evatt thinks he works hard enough then i'll take the opinions of folk who reckons he doesnt with a pinch of salt

could he score more goals, yes, course he could but hes very young

if we can get up, he would be a priority for me

lets not forget, while luton prob arent a prem team, theyd be one of the best next season in div 2

Agree with all that. I understand the points about his consistency and some parts of his game (can see your points on off the ball, Mounts) but let’s be honest, if he was consistently at his best then he wouldn’t be with us because we’ve seen that his best is at times too good for this league.

He does things others can’t, he’s probably the most comfortable player in our team moving with the ball and going past players (and I include Sheehan in that who does it very well) and he can make things happen. He’s young, relatively inexperienced and at times it shows, but his raw ability says that he could make the step up should we get promoted and I think we / Evatt would benefit him as much as he would us.

As for the Luton point - I found myself thinking the same (Prem only in name) but being fair to them, they’re not exactly on 3 points and have a good chance of staying up. As you say, even if they do come down as expected, they’ll be one of the top teams in the Champ next season so the way we’ve performed against them over 2 games shouldn’t be underplayed.

One of the tutors from when I did my UEFA B license ( ex top level pro) has had dealings with Maghoma and thinks he’s going to be an excellent player when he matures, couldn’t believe we got him on loan thought he end up at a much higher club than league one and it shows how excellent a reputation we and Evatt have that we can get these players. For me, if we go up signing him permanently should be priority number 1.

Maghoma has something none of our midfielders have with his dribbling and ball carrying skills. It's just a case of him learning the best time and place to release the ball. Which will come with time. We need an option of the unpredictable to our system at times!
