Good points , I have a few neighbours with ST ‘s who only do the early season night matches .Sometimes they piss me off because it seems they take the easy option but ultimately they buy in so who am I to castigate them ?

In any case , it’s more less a function of getting older . I used to prefer night matches when I was younger , there seemed to be a better atmosphere than Saturday matches , now less so .

I don’t think the absentees in the main affect the atmosphere much , last night it was good , a little flat later when we were five up & a lot of ‘older’ folk thinking about getting off the car park !

Good reply.

The atmosphere was better than I thought it was going to be. Obviously the 5 goals helped 🤣.

It’s a good talking point, but I’m fairly sympathetic to everybody’s point of view on this and nobody's decision to not go or leave early upsets my viewing or enjoyment.

Last night the expectation to win, after a poor 2nd half Saturday and not quite in the final throws of the run-in, was never going to sway those on the fence.

Our last Tuesday night home game v Shrewsbury, while similar to Oxford may attract a few more as I feel it will have a bit more jeopardy and nearer that end of season excitement

Agree

But I don’t think it’s a bad thing.

13/14k home fans at night games ain’t bad.

A lot of the folk missing with the cheap tickets will be kids/OAPs. But for the cheap tickets they probably wouldn’t be there at weekends when we get 19/20k on.

I regularly have 2 missing on night games. Eldest won’t come back from Uni and my dad (83) won’t turn out at night. But the cheap tickets get them there on a Saturday.

Likewise.
grandson (nearly 4) does most Saturday games with me but wouldn’t dream of taking him on night game at that age.

The games being shown on the dodgy stick is far and away the biggest reason for folk not turning up.

Correct. Watch the game and be in bed for 10. Why would you not do this

No chance of that , head buzzing with either fear & trepidation on losing or buzzing with replays going through your head when winning.

Need a strong nightcap or several before hitting the sack .

Unless of course some horizontal jogging is on the menu.

Season tickets are good value, but the idea that they're cheap enough to enable folk to miss doesn't stand up to scrutiny.

I think it does

If its owt up to 30 plus for a match ticket, missing 5 or 6 must leave you about even?

And kids tickets at buttons each

I was home at half 10 last night

I think the big issues are free on a stick and game not finishing til nearly 10 when as a kid it was 9.10

Fwiw, id not miss a league or proper cup game but ive watched a cpl of pizza games just cos i cba

No stick, id go

I live 20 mins walk away.

Didn't renew this season and have only been to 3 games so far this season.

I'll probably get a season ticket again next season but I'm not doing Tuesday nights again.

Got work, school pick up, kids clubs and waiting for the Mrs to get back from the office to contend with on a Tuesday. It's just not worth hassle when "my legitimate Ifollow feed" does the same job.

Thats another issue. Can’t fucking sleep after driving back which puts me off.
I have been to most night games this season but it is nice to have the option to fuck it off and still watch the match

And you find it hard walking round in your tinfoil hat

Basically evening matches are fucking faff. Out of town stadium, and if you are working it's only a couple of hours turnaround before you have to make a move to get there. Unlike Saturdays were the majority of us have most of the day to get there. If you throw in live TV coverage then it's not surprising folk give night matches a miss.

I know it's only 15 mins but bringing the ko time forward to 1945 makes that slot for getting there even smaller. Bring back the 8pm ko for me.

There is also that.

It fails to get adequate signal around the middlebrook area. Much like my phone.

Which means you're not in attendance any more then. Just go when you fancy, which might not be as often if you've not invested anything up front. Even on a Saturday.

If it is believed they're too cheap, then putting the price up won't make those same individuals go just because they've paid a couple of quid more per match.

But it may well mean they don't bother getting an ST at all.

Moreover, our owners are no mugs when it comes to business.

Having the money up front is no doubt worth more to them than taking a gamble on attendances/performances getting more through the door later.

Chatting to my daughter on the way home last night and I told her night matches used to finish at 21:10 at Burnden, 19::30 kick off, only 45 minutes each half and ten minutes half time, or have I made that up?

That was in the olden days

Flog cheap tickets folk can be picky

I've said before, I'm an owd chap so my ticket for a cup game  is only £5, but the match bus (if they run one) is £7 plus even just one pint in fanzone £6 and I'm in for at least £18 before I've even got my coat and boots on. WTv plus my ticket is only £15 and my coat and boots can stay where they are.

I don't mind night matches as a rule, and I go to league matches of course.  I was there last night but Tuesday cup games are bad for business. I always get my ticket, but don't always go.

And if/when night matches become even more of the norm (new TV schedules), the dodgy stick/night matches become the reason not to get a season ticket, its a slippery slope.  We're cushioned from it at the moment because the football is good, we are winning games, we like the owners and tickets are cheap.

If a couple of those factors disappear in future, we'll be looking back on last night's crowd with envy.

Youve said a lot there but nowt that addresses the claim many people buy a ST and even if they opt out of a few midweeks are still in profit

I agree

Is it next year it goes daft

I bet Mr Hart wouldnt like an article laying out a potential fixture list

Like you say, while we are winning, its all good

Many, i expect, would sack the ST if its 8 saturdays, for eg, a season

I reckon last night is more of what we've got to look forward to next season, half empty stands.

I'm part of the "easy viewing" group, as in I don't go if it's a faff (look at the motorway last night). TBH  I don't like midweek games either.

Yes next year according to this, Sky have bought the rights to show 1,059 of 1,891 EFL games.  Includes loads of L1 and L2 so not getting promoted won't protect us from it a lot.  Most folk won't realise the impact yet but after a year or 2 of it, EFL fans are going to think twice before shelling out for S/Ts at grounds that don't sell out, where you can just pick and choose when to go.  But then the habit is broken and the picking & choosing becomes too much effort for some.
