Always had time for Nobby, played for the shirt and got a lot of unwarranted and unnecessary abuse, I would love to see him back in a Bolton shirt, but, you know the old adage, 'never go back', Good luck to him wherever he plies his trade. :good:

Is he playing as a midfielder or off the forward? for me he was always better off skd. Too big and not mobile enough for a midfielder but great technical ability, hence some of the goals he used to score. Blackburn at home and Arsenal away spring to mind.

found his level, and hopefully if he gets back in the prem he can keep it up.

i dont think it'll benefit either party if he came back, big fan of nolan though good luck to the lad

I'll be honest i thought it was a really poor decision to sell him.. i'd have him back at Bolton because i think he's better than any of our other midfielders..

Your footballing opinions become more and more null and void with every post.

He WAS better but that time was at least 2 years before he left.

Glad he his doing so well because he always gave 100 % despite the backbiting he endured & it has to said scored many a vital goal for us.

I think when we signed Anelka he was forced into a deeper midfield role which did'nt suit him & his form dipped .

Even post Anelka he was still not given the attacking licence that he had before , which for me is the only position he can play effectively

for someone without any pace to get so many goals shows his excellent positional ability especially when he playied off KD

compare that with the lack of positional nouse of Elmander

I'm beginning to think you are posting ridiculous statements for a laugh. It's the only explanation for your current bizarre form, unless you are concussed or on legal highs 24/7.

They like him a lot up here. Was just in the Toon now and the front cover of the NUFC calendar has Nolan being mobbed by team mates after scoring, so obviously a favourite. Mind you the rest of the team are such ugly fuckers that may be the reason for the choice of picture.

Have to echo the "found his level" sentiments, and agree with Frank that we have to judge him on his last 2 years, and not an MOTD highlights package. And those two years were well below par, and we were getting ever-decreasing utility out of the lad.

Even in his goalscoring pomp for us, I still felt he looked not fully fit, that he was a passenger in many games, and and that he didn't have the skill to command a midfield and dictate the tempo as a top-class midfielder should. He seemed to have the canny knack of arriving in the right place at the right time ? la Paul Scholes, but without all the other bits that make the likes of Scholes top-class. And pointing and shouting a lot are not ample substitutes.

No doubting the lad's passion and effort - I backed him when he was here and wished him well on his departure - but it's my opinion on his footballing ability, and it's *out there*.
