If N'gog is back-up to Carroll & Suarez, why would Liverpool let him go ?

Sturridge is desperate to make it at Chelsea, however many strikers are ahead of him.

Welbeck or Macheda would get us out of a hole short-term.

Jerome doesn't impress as a scorer, but would add some pace up front.

Basically we're desperate, and other clubs know it.

I dont see it that way the top clubs have a ruck load of strikers on there books who will struggle for game time, who are good enough for us, I actually think we are in a strong position and we should have good money to spend as we are well in front on transfer deals this window.

At the end of last season when we were losing to everybody [ mostly down to us not having Holden or M. Davies to pick in Central Midfield imo ] I would have been disillusioned to think we would be losing Elmander and Sturridge... and the names in the frame to replace them were Ngog and/or Jerome! Seriously don't rate either of these.

I think I'm realising though that our days of buying expensive players may be over. My expectations have been slowly but subtly changed by the arrival of more 'unwanted' free transfers and bargain basement squad filler players from the lower leagues.

I'm sad and frustrated that inbetween 2 good managers who had a real feeling for the club we had a bad one who didn't... and indeed it was he who was the one who got to pay large transfer fees and offer relatively attractive contracts.

I rate Coyle very highly but if there is money available and he is the one unwilling to pay the silly prices in todays market... I think he may regret it! Worse still I think us fans may regret it! For the first time in a while there is real excitement in watching Bolton play from many fans who were turned off by the drivel served up previously. But without some seriously good options upfront I fear we will be "kicking the dog" more often than not on a Saturday evening!

Chungy's injury and the early games in the fixture list both have me feeling very uninspired this morning... sorry to be negative but if Jerome signs I think I may cry!

Haven't they just signed another Striker for 18 million?

I think Coyle Is right to be prudent with the clubs money. After all we know that you can spend big and still end up with a flop. I am pretty sure that the managers that are after Jerome know a damn sight more about players and what's available than everyone on this board. It may well be that Coyle is thinking Jerome was garbage last season, but he sees some pace and strength that he can work with and hopefully he can get a few goals out of him. I seriously don't know who we should be signing but the negativity about us signing such a player is hilarious, that's until someone else is named and we can all rubbish that link aswell.

Aye, that Lukaku lad.

I've got a sneaky feeling we'll be getting Sturridge back again.

Out of all chelseas strikers we'd be more likely getting nic back.

He's already come out and said that he will see out the last year of his contract at Chelsea, even if it just means that he is a bit part player just playing the odd game.

Personally I don't think we will get any. I actually think that Drogba will be sold, and possibly Kalou or Malouda as well. Leaving them with Torres, Sturridge and Lukaku to play most games, and then Anelka and either Kalou or Malouda to fill in as and when.

Has anyone else thought that OC may be towing the line with his comments? He strikes me as the type to have his company hat on when speaking to the media

If he has a very limited budget, thatvwouldnt be particularly attractive for any target...them thinking there will be no additional investment

It also gives the supporters hope and that hope can sell tickets and improve the fan's "vibe"

Basically I don't believe it's just him being prudent

Yeah, Mounts, but means that clubs can sting us for big loan fees ....... let alone if we try to buy anyone. And we ain't got that much money, I would guess.

It's looking more & more like this summer's strategy depended on Cahill's sale for big money. And Plan-B is a very very limited scenario.

Anyway, we'll soon see.

Sorry Rembrandt I don't agree I think that the top teams will be more desperate to offload surplus players on high wages, it will be a buyers market at the end of the window.

Sorry, Mounts, you must be joking ........ what do high wages for huge squads mean to the likes of Citeh & Chelsea ?

If the big clubs had a different way to get their players good match experience (like having their Reserve teams in the Championship), they'd probably stop loaning to other Prem clubs altogether.

As it is, they can afford to pick & choose what they do. Even ManU, Arsenal & Liverpool are hardly counting the pennies.

Anyway, like I said, 3 weeks & a bit to go - so we'll soon see.

I will be very suprised if we don't pick up a name striker or a young and upcoming talent before the window closes, as you say we will soon know.

Wouldn't have minded him at Bolton. Fact remains they've paid around ?7 million based on a good 6 months, not likely on our budget

Initial fee of 4.5m according to sky
