i think davies offered very little last season so even i wouldn't use the loss of him as an excuse for the manager

alonso has been a loss but only because tierney got injured

the manager is on record as saying he focussed his summer signings in some of the wrong areas, admitting he should have had more full back cover

given another bash at it, i think he would have had to forego hall as we're hardly short of midfield options

one point i would make is that imo, baptiste was signed to play full back

What worries me about DF is on Friday he said this squad was good enough to get into the play offs and last season with the help of Dawson we nearly got there despite a shocking start to the season. We have added too last seasons squad and let just 1 player goRicketts and we are a million miles worse than the end of last season, to me it looks like he's throwing the blame at the players and not taking his share of the blame for this car crash of a season.

To be fair, he re-iterated in the post-match interview (can't remember if it was the GMR or Tower one) that, paraphrasing, (he) "Hasn't received a single phone call or interest..." regarding the players he's decided aren't up to the task, or who've (the players) decided themselves they don't want to rise to the task.

This isn't some blinkered defence of Freedman, some of his selections and formations have been baffling at best and infuriating at worst - but we don't know what goes on in the dressing room/training. I don't think his talk of 'cultures' and players shirking the task in hand is some desperate attempt to deflect criticism and cling on to his job.

For what it's worth I don't think Gartside can/will sack Dougie, I think it's far more likely he'll walk - this reinforces my view he isn't shifting blame to save his own skin, more telling it like it is.

We can't get shut if no-one wants them, he'd probably get stick if he played the youth and we received a drubbing - it's lose/lose. I think we've got to stick with Freedman, if only to break this poisonous 'culture' that was arguably even evident during Coyle's tenure.

Hopefully even the shithouses will buck their ideas up after Saturday, who'd consider taking them on with any more displays like that? You'd hope greed and self interest to pick up a contract elsewhere would inspire them enough to mean Saturday's result was a one-off.

It's a shit state of affairs, but let's not plaster over the cracks for the short term (with a change), if Freedman proves to be one of the major cracks then get shut of him too, but, barring a real danger of relegation - let's see this season out.

He has had a right pop at the players in two articles in the BEN.

I'm not sure how that is going to help us one bit.  Maybe he has run out of ideas to motivate them.

Only a game or so ago he reckoned we could still get to the playoffs, today they are completely useless.   I can't see how any of these would want to play for him anymore.

Along that way you are seeing players who are frankly not good enough for the football club. I have to work with these players and train with them until I can get recruitment in.

“They are not good enough and anyone can see that.

“I’ve only got 15 or 16 senior players and I can’t trade them

This has lingered around the club for three or four years. “I know it is my job to pick them up and make sure they give honest performances but frankly some of them are not up to playing Championship football and winning games

I know I have been here 14-15 months but there is still a nucleus of players who are simply not good enough for the football club. And you can’t move them on because football players these days earn that much money, you can’t move them, so you have to work with them

He could play lone striker.

Last season he couldn't.  This season he'd have been even less effective.

Back to Freedman, whilst this public slating of the players isn't unwarranted, it smacks of a manager at the end of the tether.  If he's struggling to get them to perform then I can't see how it's going to improve after this.

We've either got to get shut of him and his staff now, or we have to give him the summer to sort out the squad ... and pray there are three teams shitter than us between now and the end of the season.

Well that sounds like a 'back me* or sack me' type of situation he's created there, or, perhaps, getting his take on the situation on the record before throwing the towel himself?

* For loans and short term moves, and/or relief of any pressure (direct or indirect) from above to use certain elements of the current crop who aren't performing.

I've just read that DF had to give the players at half time a team talk that he wasn't expecting to give because he wasn't expecting a performance as bad as that from every player on the park so gave them a "play for your pride and for the shirt and those supporters out there" so what do they do?  go out and ship another 3 goals in so that tells me that all those 11 cunts heard was "blah blah blah"

I think you're right. It's a call to the board to say forget FFP we need urgent action. Even if they sack Freedman, they'd probably still cross the line over FFP because of all the compensation they would have to pay.

Also if you put Phillips in charge, as many would like, there would be a problem with motivation and morale as we know from the last time Phillips was in charge that he would dump Knight. That's a player earning £29,000 a week training with the academy. Though you could argue that's the same with Mears. Mears was offered money to go but turned it down as he'd rather earn £25,000 a week and get splinters from the bench than play football. How much would we need to pay Zat Knight to get rid of him? Then  you still need to recruit some one to take their positions.

Who do we sack though? The manager? The players? The board?

All of them seem to be doing a pretty shit job! Sack the lot?

Sadly I think we might have to accept that for now we need to try and avoid going down while we slowly get rid of the shit players on big money. We cant afford to waste money sacking Freedman as the next manager will struggle with this set of knobs no matter who it is imo.

Sad situation compared to recent years but its one we are in.

Sums up my feelings.

Not sure any manager has ever comeback from turning on the players like DF Has done.

The other issue is that based on DFs recruitment to date Hall, Mason and that left back not sure he is going to pluck a hero from nowhere.

I think I'd be happy if Zat Knight left. He's only got 6 months left on his contract, I'd like to sack him. Obviously Saturdays defeat wasn't all down to one man and we did get torn apart down the left where we are short of a fullback. However we were doing alright under the Mills / Ream partnership.

Other than that I agree with you.

Needed to be said though. Even if it's only for the benefit of the next one in charge.

Out of interest, do you know those players are earning that amount of money, or have you just made it up?

I have taken the information from the Independent and the Guardian newspapers. Two sources of information and has been commonly accepted information.

fair enough, I would be amazed/shocked/horrified/distraught if Mears was on £25K per week though

I'm pretty sure he would have gone by now if he was going to be sacked,

If it wasn't a money thing he'd not be here, Coyle and Megson were sacked for bad results

Somewhere in that blurb Ian Herbert for the Independent says £25,000 a week. The Gaurdian and Telegraph ran similar articles one of which pointed to Knight earning £29,000 a week.

Not a happy club, manager knows he's only there 'cos of money, manager doesn't like the players, some players know they are only playing because we can't move them on until their contracts run out, strikers get dropped for loans, confidence will be shattered now with that 7-1 and being in the drop of the Championship when you were a Prem player not long ago is gonna be hard to take.

They have had X opportunities to put themselves in the shop window to regain status as 'Premier players'...

They're not 'Premier players' because they were, in the main, shit enough to be relegated, shit enough to fail with a promotion push and, finally, shit enough that Premiership clubs, or clubs on the cusp of promotion to the Premiership don't want to take them on.

I'm shedding internal 'tears' at the plight of our poor loves, I'm in a mind to store these 'tears' in a bottle and shower them with it at some point in the future...
