Moderators Zico Posted May 14, 2014 Moderators Share Posted May 14, 2014 Dougie seemed more than happy with his budget in a recent interview. Said he has a decent amount to bring some in. aye, evening news said he had "scope" so guess we just wait and see all new contracts are being offered on reduced terms so "decent" won't be as much as last season, but might better than what he had at palace

I was on the same page as Zico, but if the news is better then great! However, if DF is happy with his budget, let's not have excuses mid next season that he's been hamstrung by having to bring down the wage bill
Sweep
let's not have excuses mid next season that he's been hamstrung by having to bring down the wage bill You would hope that most of the problem wages have now "flushed through" - maybe if we can get rid of Chungy and Mills who are probably both non a decent whack then the whole wage bit will look a little bit healthier
Traf
Knight wasn't on £19k a week. Well you may know more than me, but that's what I read in the paper. Good News for the East Midlands Whites, though.

Who knows what they are? And they may not be the same as the fans expectations. Reduce wage bill a further 33% develop youngsters and achieve promotion in 2/3 years? (Similar path back to prem as Derby say) Ptomotion next year? Etc etc

If we finish 12th say, Kellett, Threkeld, Riley, Vela, Hall are all gradually making more appearances and contributing, I could well see him getting another contract. The trouble is even if its the right decision to keep him on it will make the job ten times harder. Once the fans turn it doesn't matter if they are wrong or not it usually only goes one way from there. If the scenario that Ex mid mentioned did actually happen I would be happy for him to stay on. At least that would see the team building up to something and it will be sustainable with the youth players in the team.

If QPR don't go up then of the last 9 relegated teams only 1 will have gone back to the prem. So what are the expectations for teams coming down from the prem. It takes time. Hence why I believe the expectations might be different to those of the fans

If the goal was to do what we've done then why is he bemoaning our poor start and the player insurrection or whatever? He doesn't need to if his target was mid-table For next season then let's see, but to qualify my comments; he can't use the wage bill as an excuse not to hit whatever targets they set....I'm pretty sure he will be asked by someone between now and next season what the goals are, so let's listen, find out and then lay these bullshit goalpost moves to rest

gonzo
I'm pretty certain the so called cost cutting exercise only came into play once it became apparent the season was over a couple of months in. If we were cost cutting last summer and the aim wasn't promotion, why spunk fortunes in wages on a player like Baptiste? Or offer Zat Knight a new deal? Or take sign a player like Tierny? Surely If the big cull was in play then,we would have gone for players on less wages etc??

Especially the quality of the home games. But he hasn't been sacked so can't be doing horrifically against the aims. Given the boos and chants at Millwall when he came over ED/PG wouldn't have been worried about fan reaction of sacking him so they have had chances to do so. COYW
But he hasn't been sacked so can't be doing horrifically against the aims. Not necessarily. We probably can't afford to sack him but if we do as badly next season as we've done this, i wouldn't expect his contract to be renewed.
