I was definitely imagining it then. I have seen the film clip so it may have been that I was thinking of. It's got me thinking back to the big blue wooden signal box that we used for the half time scores. Modern times eh?!

Regularly in trouble for sneaking into Bolton railway sheds and climbing on to footplates etc. Vague memory that the code plate for Bolton was 9D but time may be playing tricks with my memory. Remember my old man taking me to Manchester Exchange to see Mallard and Sir Nigel Gresley in all their glory. York railway museum too. The he took me on the The Embankment and my life changed forever. God bless him. York railway museum is fckin brilliant. Took my lad last year and he loved it - they’ve got 3 engines that were built at Horwich Loco. Theres a library in the museum and my lad asked the old gent working in there about the horwich engines, when he found out we lived a stones throw from the old sheds, he spoke to us for ages and was a goldmine of info. Really knew his stuff and my lad was transfixed. will be going back. And, it’s free. Not bad for Yarksher.

From memory the last steam loco ever built for BR? It was always the holy grail in my younger years. Never got to write down 92220 in my little black book. Don't think I ever got to see a 2-10-0 at all. My old man was a long distance lorry driver for Forth Transport in them days. Used to regularly go with him all over the country during the 6 week holiday and at other holidays. Used to drive the poor bugger mad with "Stop Dad! There's a shielder coming" (or similar). Maybe one day steam power will return but heated by nuclear fission? Got all Fred Dibnah's stuff and really enjoy his steam power DVD's.
