The big fucker who covered his guns in baby oil

Never seen anything like it the day he turned up with boro

He saw a lot of the ball and anyone who went near him either bounced, slipped or slided off him

When he played for Middlesbrough i did a job on a house opposite the gaff he was renting.

Could you see him through the curtains, oiling up?

TBH, I'd never heard of him, it was the old lady i was doing the work for said he lived there, it wasn't exactly millionaire footballer area either.

The Alex Scott move to Bournemouth set a new bar for EFL clubs for me, if £25m for a promising lad from a mid table Championship club is fair game, no reason why L1 clubs should be settling for £1m or £2m. The standard and level of players at our level has improved markedly even since we last went up under Parky. Lads like Charles and Toal have played full international football (yes, I know, for NI), Sheehan getting involved a bit with Wales. Don't blame Posh, we should play similar hardball, we have good assets.

see, i dont buy this 'we give players away'

fwiw, i'm always sad when players i like leave, but be honest, we always think we havent got what they are worth and generally they dont go on to be superstars

also peterbrough got 2 million for the current top scorer in division 2

second top scorer moved to his club for a million

We have rarely been lucky or shrewd in player sales though, Madine apart. Holding, Alan Thompson, Eidur Gudjohnson, McAteer, Brian Borrows, all went to the top division and became regulars. Mostly we had to sell because of finances which makes it harder to get top money but we have a terrible record of negotiating.

I think we were stuffed in those cases because they were in the last 12 months of contracts. Many others we have done poorly with though, see my list above.

holding, fire sale, hindsight shows he went cheap

thompson - had to go to scotland

curcic - best spell with us

eidur - nobody would touch him

mcateer - couldnt hack it as a midfielder - prob about right

borrows - was it 80k - not so bad them days for a club on the slide

gunnlaugson - had leicesters keks down

blake - best spell with us - gota good price

jensen - did v well, poss little undervalued

im sure theres plenty more :)

all this is history anyway and i don't agree its relevant to the new ownership

tbf to Anelka, he signed a new contract with us when he could have just sat it out. That meant we got money we would not have 6 months later.

Cahill, seriously, who could blame him ?

with hindsight, we even gave ream away!!!!

While we might have had some instances down the years where we've arguably been had over, as has been said some of it was down to the individual circumstances and timing. I'm not sure that our current owners would crumple in a heap if tested but we'll no doubt find out over the next few weeks

Thompson went to villa for 4.5 mill and that was probably an ok deal but not a brilliant deal

I just checked and that same summer Blackburn paid 7.5 million for Kevin Davies. I know it’s all irrelevant to our situation now but we have rarely been good at negotiating player sales. I trust our present owners to be far better though.
