I also refute the popular misconception larger attendances for crap fixtures make for a better atmosphere.

Price
Lee/Megson/Coyle/Freedman/Lennon/Parkinson
Sponsors Logo
Ticket prices
Away fans moved upstairs
Ken not being Bolton born and bred
Lee Anderson having long hair
Colour of seats
Shit train service
Crap ale
Crap food

As you tick off/negate excuses, those who want to moan will come up with something else.

I agree lots don't want to go anymore which is completely their choice.

I would say BWFC and perhaps most other clubs do absolutely nothing to change that unless sending emails to season ticket holders weekly to Buy a ticket is actually working ha.

Joking aside I find the email calling our support again lazy at best.  No one is returning but more season ticket holders I know are fed up with the comments

Out of interest, apart from dropping ticket prices which we know is a short term measure that changes nothing longer term, what do you want the club to do to encourage fans to return?

I want KA to promise a £3M transfer kitty for next season if we get 20k every game for the rest of this season, like he did last season

or

just to stop moaning about it in his column

most who read it are ones who go

what the fuck does he want us to do about it?

I'm in the pro-Ken camp but I do think he is harping on a bit now. I'm not particularly keen on him citing 'big Club's' support base - surely he was diligent enough before investing to see that Bolton and indeed most Clubs in the area don't have such a core support.

So what is he doing to improve the attendance. Bar the cracking start we had (not evidenced at home), why does he persistently expect to add thousands on our match day attendence?

The truth is that if you take football out of the equation, the experience (which isnt necessarily relevant for those currently in attendance) isnt very good and is expensive. You can pen that under infrastructure, shit food, crap entertainment either side of the game the list is quite long but there is a malaise across all smaller Clubs where support is dwindling because the offer isn't that exciting.

I think that Ken has largely done a good job since coming in, but putting bums on seats is now a priority and the angle of attack needs to change.

Constantly mentioning it on the club website clearly isn't working. The marketing department (if we have one) need to pull its collective finger out or get out.

A new initiative is needed as telling those already going that there's not enough of them just isn't doing the trick.

Just something really. It may be somewhere to sit near ground with cheap beer an open air space or perhaps Put some decent food on. Put train ticket in the match ticket. Plenty of ideas to discuss. I just feel they do nothing than ask me to buy a ticket. I am not the target audience as I'm in but to any floaters we must try something, or stop going on about it

Spot on. If it wasn't for our loyalty to the badge you aren't rocking up at Bolton

Can only go off opinions when it was discussed which mainly involved folk laughing a lot at the tiresome 20k myth.

one did say we will miss Ken when he goes but I think he meant for different reasons

My suspicion is that people who aren't going are doing so for reasons beyond any the club can easily address.

We're down to the usual attendance you'd expect aren't we? Historically speaking.

Agreed. But in my opinion we should always go for more, at least certainly try.

Maybe engage in ideas from the fans

Spot on or consider us as fans rather than customers

Surely some of the improvement of matchday experience has to come from the fans?

Folk mock the Palace fans doing the whole 'ultras light' thing but they are making an effort to improve their enjoyment of the game.

We've been in the Reebok/Macron/unibolt for 20+ years now and there's never been a concerted effort by the fans to generate an atmosphere.

The club tried making the NSL a singing section, theyve had the drummers, fireworks, cheerleaders and even brought in the fanzone. All in an attempt to improve the off pitch experience. All have fallen by the wayside as the fans didn't buy into them.

Agree Frank. But again they should try again. Nothing has been done for a long time

tell KA that, he's the one who keeps banging on about it

it just always feels like it's leading to a "we could have done so much more had the fans bothered to turn up"

There is stuff Ken and the Club can do to improve the matchday experience. Perhaps we can have better catering, beer etc. at more reasonable prices when the current arrangements expire. I remember even in Prem days moaning about the fact that Kiosks shut at half time and no one could delay their journey after the game and trying to get off the car parks. We have to take every opportunity to reduce the excuses people have not to go.

As for the negative press, it may possibly affect the floating fans view of whether to attend or not. To be fair to Iles he can only report whats there and if we are nearly going into Admin and not paying ex players then it's there to be reported. I think Ken has some control over these events which are a public relations nightmare.

Half the league is in that position.

Anyway, results are improving on last year so that's good.

Let's not kid ourselves that it's quality fayre though.

There's little atmosphere at the start and not a great sense of anticipation. You and many others have said that you enjoy/are happy with what's on offer and that's fair enough.

Plenty of others aren't, and whether folk like it or not, that's the reason a number aren't coming.

It's not great entertainment. Obviously Saturday was an improvement, and if this carries on a few will start to return and Ken will be happy.

With reference to Saturday.

If we hadn’t had a crap ref and Scott Carson hasn’t feigned injury then the atmosphere would have been the same as per usual.

Other the goal and the final whistle the biggest noises where made when the ref didn’t give us anything, when Scott Carson was taking a goal kick and when a 10 year old lobbed the ball over his head.

Home games are just shite for atmosphere get the away fans in bottom tier. Blackburn have bottom Saturday should be better

Fans in upper tier means less coppers + stewarding = less money spent from the clubs coffers.

Correct.

And similar applies to selling 2,000 tickets at £30 as opposed to 4,000 at £15
