Moderators Casino Posted October 31, 2018 Moderators Share Posted October 31, 2018 i take little interest, but if most of these earthquakes are indiscernible, how do we know its not been happening forever and a day?

An area that's never had any earthquakes suddenly has 19 when fracking starts. They might be tiny and hopefully they stay that way but are we not fecking about with something that we don't fully understand where the long term consequences are unknown? No - because multiple small earthquakes is exactly what they would expect as soon as they started fracking. We know this - we've known it for years. What is happening is exactly what is supposed to happen. We've got decades of data from the US from much more seismically active areas - and our margin for error is huge compared to the states. They aren’t. And the big problem isn’t earthquakes or tremors affecting things above. It’s them troubling the well and forcing cracks elsewhere leading to water being poisoned. Apparently this happened at pressall and the project was stopped. Caudrilla got planning permission based on the promise tremors would be kept under 0.5. They are consistently above that so far. If that carries on something must change. Caudrillia are after raising the bar to 2.5 like it is in Switzerland, but then that opens up the whole debate again and planning starts all over again. There’s various abondened projects that have follwed the same fate.
Site Supporter Spider Posted October 31, 2018 Site Supporter Share Posted October 31, 2018 How much is the gas they've got out? Is it cheaper than the Russian shit I'm paying 30000 krugerands a month for? I don't care if Blackpool Tower falls over, I'd just want the cheap gas. That’s a new well every day from now until 2035. Aint going to happen is it. Fracking isn’t the answer to our reliance on imports. I’m quoting myself because I can’t be arsed typing it out again. Fracking will make some folk a shitload if money. It won’t fix the problem of our reliance on foreign imports

leigh white
Just listening on the BBC about what it's costing taxpayers to decommission the Sellafield Nuclear Plant, fucking eye watering. The Brexit divorce bill will be small change compared to this.

If the tests prove that there is billions of recoverable barrels of oil then it will be a fantastic find for the UK economy, particularly in the light of Brexit.
