What systems better to use than Excel? (an up to date version of course)

Also, can’t they just transfer the data from one excel file to a new one, copy and paste job

To store data?

An industry standard database would be a massive step up

I’d have imagined Excel is industry standard software for data base use

Not my game though I

Appreciate it will likely have limitations when you get into the millions of data entries

It’s not a database it’s a spreadsheet 🤷🏽‍♂️

Remember the utter clusterfuck that was NHSpfIT?

CCS, G-Cloud, DOS etc all utter shite Procurement models

However none of that explains this latest bag of wank. Not sure how true it is but I read today that the actual issue here was not the use of Excel but the limitations of the version (.xls not .xlsx for example)

It was Excel fucking 97 🙈🙈🙈

1997! The 100 point season and I was a teenager FFS

it's essentially for doing finances though it is a lot more versatile these days

My laptop, which is a decent spec, slows down when  processing 25k rows linked across two tabs

I just got one of these notifications. So the app sends notifications that you can ignore. But also ones you have to follow. Also some that disappear.

Also confusing is that the picture they use in that article is from the C19 ZOE app

But aye, I've now had two of those alerts

I got one of those push notifications  last night too.
was a bit worried for a while as the screen message said potential exposure to Covid, the strength and duration... but it disappeared when I clicked it.

googled what that meant and apparently it’s a system test , fair enough testing it but fuck me they could use a different message on the test surely  ? Like, “ information, please open or even “ this is a test” or at least have information to explain once you’ve pressed in the notification so people aren’t worrying when they receive a message saying they’ve been exposed without any follow up .

One of my mate's sons, has just been sent home from school for 14 days,  a few days after completing 14 days at home, because his dad tetsed positive a few weeks back. Going to happen to loads this, multiple times.

Out of the BWFC academy team of 13 players, at the moment,  5 are isolating because of school, 1 because of his Dad, and 3 have siblings off school - 9 out of 13 families with kids schooling from home, and they break up for half term in 17 days.

the home schooling is better now - my lad is basically sat at his desk in his bedroom at 9am - 3.15pm, confecrenced in to every class.

Just speaking to a friend who is currently on Anglesy

"The Welsh are mad"

They are talking about quarantining anyone for 14 days who comes fom England, for any reason.

It's a very leaky border and the A483 (I think) criss-crosses a number of times

It’s just unworkable really

My daughter has just gone back into Nursery after 14 days off as one of the other kids tested positive

Between her and my son we pay £1k a month in fees, clearly if they aren’t in for 2 weeks then you want your money back

To be fair to the Nursery they are trying to find a way to pay via an insurance claim but they already did that in March and I don't think they are playing ball this time.

The government have decided the measures yet they expect the Nursery AND / OR parents to pick up the bill in Nursery settings

Either extend furlough (at least for some industries) or change the guidelines so all businesses can operate to a relatively normal level despite Covid
