With hindsight I’d say we would have been better off doing it March 

I’d only suggest doing it now if a vaccine was 6-12 months away 

Based on the economic cost far outweighing the damage that the virus could do

What action does the g/f who had her hair done last week have to take ?

I'd say that'd be lunacy and that I'm not ready to say goodbye to loved ones that I don't need to just yet.

She should, in theory, receive a notification on the NHS ap telling her to isolate for 2 weeks from the date she had her hair done - just like I did after AA man was fixing my car.  I got the notification 6 days from that date and therefore had to isolate for 8 days.

If she hasn't had a notification I suppose the responsible thing to do would be to self-isolate anyway.

If it could have been done without completely fucking the economy up then of course I’d have shared that opinion 

However I think the consequences of what we have done to the economy will lead to savage public spending cuts that will in turn lead to many more excess deaths in the years to come 

150k excess deaths occurred between 2010 to 2020 because the NHS budget only increased by 1% a year rather than 3% 

I don't think it’s as simple as lives vs economy, the strength of the economy has a direct impact on our ability to save lives

As I say, the vulnerable would have only had to shield for 4 to 6 months whilst the virus worked its way through the rest of us 

How many of the worst case 500k would have died with a proper shielding strategy for the vulnerable, who knows! Likely to be 150k to 250k based on a total guess

Suppose it depends whether the hair dresser was infectious when she was there.

Maybe contact them to find out.

If unsure, isolate.

Given it was doubling every week back in Spring then it’s highly unlikely that this would have been the case 

6 months should have been more than enough for over 50% of the population to have contracted the virus

Plenty of people don't have it because they don't want to to be told they have to self-isolate for up to 2 weeks.

Must admit, it pissed me off when I had to, even though I knew there was a car windscreen between me and the AA man for pretty much the entirety of the time I was within a few feet of him, but apart from being bored for 8 days it had no real impact.

If I was self-employed then it would have affected me a lot more, so whilst I don't agree with it, I can understand why some people choose not to have it

Aye, as far as I know, especially if you show no symptoms.  It all just seems such a mess of a system, but unless everybody has the app (and always has it turned on) I'm not sue what can be done.

I had the app, was told to quarantine for 14 days which I did, after that I binned it. When most of the population don’t have it it’ll never work so what’s the point.

No idea if either of them have the app.

The hairdresser shouldn’t need to but good on her for doing so. But I would wonder whether the hairdresser is complying with the track trace rules given she felt the need to ring her and no one else has

Next year as more antibodies wear off, maybe it would be of greater concern again, but by that stage we would have hopefully had a vaccine to give full immunity to the population 

The point is we didn't achieve herd immunity to polio and smallpox by letting it rip though the population.

Also if 70% had caught it in spring, what would the death toll be?
