So what’s the annual death rate attributed to flu then, surely it’s a lot more than a few hundred? Seems ridiculously low

 I read somewhere that in most cases the incubation time was 5 days, now if the government tested you on the 5th day they’d have a much better chance of folk isolating, as it stands you are not supposed to get tested unless you have symptoms, therefore it has to be 14 days.  Most folk want to do the right thing but currently it’s not encouraging folk to do that.

I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's in that kind of ballpark. I think when the annual flu death figures are reported (in the media rather than via official statistics) they're likely to actually the figures for deaths from pneumonia and influenza combined.

A bit like the difference between "dying of" and "dying with" Covid.

Had a couple of warnings that I'd been close to someone one who'd had it, but not to worry.

And then the one that said I'd been exposed to someone who had it and that I'm now a risk and have to isolate for 8 days... presumably because that exposure was 6 days previous.

I've had a couple of warnings with a subsequent follow up message saying I've been risk assessed and don't need to isolate. They usually follow on from me checking in to somewhere with the app

Nowt for me but then again I’ve stuck to the rules and on the odd occasions I’ve been inside anywhere I’ve kept my distance and had my mask on as much as possible.

I think there's an important point there: even if you're sticking to the rules, if you're getting a number of warnings, then maybe you're doing something that's increasing your risk and it may be worth reviewing. A useful tool.

I’ve had one message. Got a shed load from NHStracing when Mrs Manc tested positive

If folk don’t use the app like it’s supposed to be used then it won’t work. I check in whenever I see the check in QR code. It’s not difficult. But some can’t be arsed and some don’t want it to work so that they can moan about it

I've had the "you've been near someone but we'll do some sums and let you know" type warning, but no official warning

The mrs also did a home test to be posted back, the envelope has a barcode on it that is apparently meant to be scanned before you post it

Except i went to the post office today and they refused to take it, said they'd got in trouble already for taking tests to pass on to postmen, and told me just to stick it in a postbox

Went to another PO for a second opinion, they too refused to take it but were at least helpful enough to inform me you need to put them in special nhs approved post boxes Which are identified by stickers, because when collecting from them the postie's have the gear on

Non of this was made clear in the instructions that came with the pack, that just said "get this label scanned before posting", which no PO will do
