In 1968, Soviet tanks rolled into the then Czechoslovakia. It was to suppress what was known as The Prague Spring. When the tanks rolled into Wenceslaus Square, the Soviet soldiers thought they were liberating the Czechs. They hadn’t a clue. They hadn’t been told. The Czechs hated the Russians. It took 21 years before they got rid of them.
I watched it on tv then just as I am watching now.

Probably the same. I wasn't criticising your description - just commenting on how horrific it is that we're saying these things about events in a modern European city.

Ok but would you accept that your initial communication I did think of as criticism?

I think it’s horrid what’s occurring and I also think that just maybe that some of the Russian soldiers don’t want to be doing what they are doing.

Would it be fair to suggest that then there was less knowledge of other ways of life available?

I’d say it was fair to suggest that some young soldiers who were sent into conflict haven’t/ hadn’t a clue why they were there.
Sent there by Ideologically inspired maniacs.

I have no idea what that sentence means. It doesn't matter.

When I was in there was always questions asked about the kit, it wasn’t until you worked alongside other nations that you realised it wasn’t all that bad (especially compared to eastern Bloc countries). It could have been better and in many cases there were short supplies. I remember going into Sierra leonne, I needed some size 8 jungle boots and was issued size 10 arctic boots 🤷🏻 (They obviously went straight on eBay). The yanks always seemed to have extra kit that we could “borrow” from them.

We always complained but that’s just the British way isn’t it?

Is that not just because the British Army only carries boots in bloke’s sizes?

A NATO plane has joined the RAF one this evening, over Poland. US airforce is still sticking with its unmanned one over the Black Sea. I wonder how many there are that we can’t track.

Well there are USAF F-16s out of Aviano near Venice that you can see intermittently on FR24 on standby over Poland and Romania. I'm long past having any street cred anymore so might as well come out with it, the Buzzard squadron from there are my favourite fighter squadron and if it kicks off they will absolutely kick fuck out of anything coming their way.

Additionally USAF F-15 and F-35 squadrons from Lakenheath in Suffolk and US F-16 squadrons from Germany have forward deployed to Poland and Romania on constant alert. Dutch, Belgian, Spanish, Italian, Romanian, Polish and numerous other air forces are also flying patrols constantly.

Makes me laugh when people make out Biden is doing nothing. Just because he's not big on twitter doesn't mean he's hiding away. Some of the finest military aircraft ever sent airborne are currently on station, and it makes me proud to know this.

The RAF is contributing with Typhoons from Lincolnshire and tankers from Brize, and there's numerous spy and electronic warfare assets up. Many of then don't have their transponders on so you can't see them on Flight Radar. NATO is on standby, and Putin knows it

My wife’s family are from a village about 10 miles from Aviano, so I see / hear the planes each time I go out there, flying through the valleys.

I’m no plane buff, I just find it quite interesting watching what’s going on up in the skies, out of sight.

I wish I had family in the same location, thats the kind of summer holiday I'd like to have 😀

The air defence network that NATO has thrown up over eastern Europe is formidable, just as expected. Any talk of a no fly zone over Ukraine enforced by NATO though is absolutely ridiculous and a one way street to nuclear war. We're doing what we can.

PS, forgot to add there's at least one aircraft carrier spewing US Navy F-18 Super Hornets into the area as well.

We are well stocked. But we will be seen to have sat back and watched Kyiv fall.

Elon Musk just activated star link in Ukraine which is his satellite internet, meaning Russia can’t hack their internet services.
