Mutley
Hutchinson is a very commanding keeper and a superb shot stopper. kicking is far from ideal not sure if he will suit the modern day keeper role as not confident with ball at feet. Probably a young David Felgate if one was crude enough to compare. he’s been recalled several times before. Highly rated at Colls not sure how he’s got on at Mareen. Coleman not let anyone down just don’t think he’s as good as Evatt would like given circumstances. He is our number 2. would like to see Hutchinson given a chance but can’t see it personally given the magnitude of every game. take a point at cambs tomorrow. Stig
Goalkeeping position is fine with Coleman and Hutch. People are forgetting the drop off in the past to Crellin and Dixon, this is nothing like it. And defensive options are fine too. We've got such a strong squad you can't really complain with the team we're putting out. They're just not playing well. Time to sort it tonight, no injury excuses

Time to sort it tonight, no injury excuses Goalkeeping position is not fine.....Keeper who simply cannot play what Evatt wants him to do. Not let anyone down simply not a ball playing Goalkeeper. Defence is the same.........Nobody taking the ball from the keepers feet resulting in mistake after mistake at the back You cannot concede three against teams like Charlton and say Defence options are fine. We have indeed got a strong squad but the complete spine is out and that would effect any team. Hopefully Santos returns asap and a starting spot is found for Forester simply the best centre half at the club after Santos and Johnston
gonzo
Liverpool have a tremendous sqaud but take Alison, Van Dyke and Salah out of the team they arent the same either. Plus another couple of defenders and your best midfielder suspended. Any team would struggle with a cobbled together defence and new keeper, especially with a system as finely tuned as ours. I think recruitment has been generally top drawer this season and we've got more than enough in the squad to be winning games like Charlton. That wasn't because of only being able to put out a weaker team than Charlton, we just played really badly first half. Cut out the poor halves and we should be winning tonight too. Remaining squad will be far superior to Cambridge

I really wish people would stop calling Thomason our best midfielder, makes me a bit ill. He's currently the best we've got to play that deeper "ball winning" role supporting Sheehan but he's far from our best midfielder in any other regard. When you looked at the starting eleven on paper before the game you’d have said it was arguably our strongest available eleven and should have been more than good enough to beat Charlton but we didn’t because players made mistakes. Iron out the mistakes and we’ll be fine until the reinforcements return.

Thomason can fire balls out that nobody else can. Hes can also get physical and isnt bullied easy. Obviously he takes that side to his game a little too far. We are worse without him thats for certain.
Wanderlust
The other factor about losing a bunch of regular starters at the same time is that their replacements - regardless of how good they are individually - are just not that familiar with each other and don’t instinctively know where their teammates will be, what runs they’ll make, where they want the ball to arrive etc, so to some extent you can expect a microsecond or two hesitation which leads to more interceptions, tackles and stray passes - something we’ve suffered a lot from recently and it emboldens the opposition. Evatt’s style is high risk, inviting the opposition on and then playing quickly through their lines and that requires speed of thought amongst other things and if that’s impaired the risk of turning the ball over is increased massively. It’s the same issue as “new signings needing time to settle in” and using players out of their normal position rolled into one. My hope is that whilst the regulars are out, the team will learn to adapt quickly. BTW ever since he was a youth player through to his loan spells I still haven’t heard a bad word about Hutch, so if we’re forced to play him I can’t imagine he’d let us down.
