First 20 minutes they executed game plan perfectly we didn’t cope from there on in, they are a team who are set up to play that way, and are better suited to playing away from home, there isn’t a chance they’ll compete with our points total over a season.

They’re a team filled with young lads and a couple of experienced heads - if we’d have took it upon ourselves to play slightly differently than we normally do in the first 10/15 minutes then it could have been a very different game. As soon as you put some confidence in young lads like that then they’re 10 times the player that they would be if they’re under the cosh from the off. It was unbelievably naive from us / Evatt.

I agree with you on the second point though, they’re very reliant on the form of a lot of youngsters and the fitness of some older lads, without having a big squad. It’s a long old season and I don’t think they’ve got the depth to challenge, especially with the 8 point deduction. Still doesn’t make yesterday any easier though.

Hindsight I know but I said something similar to my son walking out after the game, if it meant getting a yellow in the first minute then so be it. That first challenge sets the tone.

Unless an early challenge is a real dirty one it rarely results in a card. SKD used to fly in early every game to let em know he was there. We dffo needed a bit of that yesterday

They had about 3 challenges within the first 5 minutes that were all yellow cards but were let off by the ref. We said the same about SKD, it used to be him that sprinted to the full back and nailed them, get the crowd up, set the tone, Evra even cried about why he did it, now it’s us on the receiving end and us that’s shitting our pants.

(all this doesn’t really matter for the majority of the season when we’ll roll teams over with our football - but we’ve got to be able to mix it up in those few games where it’s obvious we’ll need to).

All the first three goals were gifts and no other teams would concede goals like that

Wigan deserved to win on the day, as annoying as it sounds. They have found a way of beating us and we won’t or can’t adapt. They were always going to hit us hard but the ref let the first bad tackle go and the second and the dice was cast. The first tackle was a booking all day long. Sheehan was targeted with tackles and shirt pulling and got no protection. We didn’t match their passion and capitulated which really hurts the average fan.

Can’t remember which one of ours got nailed early doors possibly Sheehan? ref wasn’t interested the marker for the game was made

May have been the one on the edge of the penalty area in front of the east stand, the challenge which resulted in the free kick which they scored there first from was no worse than ours which wasn’t given

It's an old cliché that still holds true.  Win your battles first then play your football. We looked in a state of shock from the off.

Can’t be arsed reading through all this depression porn and there’s nothing more I can really add to what I presume has already been said.

Fucking A* in Disasterclass from us. Played like a bunch of idiots and got punished. Sickener.

You are spot on had time to reflect and you are correct the buck stops with IE and Markham they go on about doing due diligence on players so 1 must be you must be a soft cunt with no bottle when the going gets tough because apart from Dempsey they are all a bunch of weak fuckers.
I again have to go into work to get ripped to pieces by tics thanks to the inept showing of our team thanks a fecking lot !!

You're right but it's not just the modern era. Waltzing in to fixtures against Wigan, Bury and to a degree Blackpool and coming up badly short has been a trend throughout the 46 years I've been following the club. You can even sense the same mentality in some of our recent games against Accrington and Morecambe (although at least the latter never beat us). These clubs are massively up for it against us. Unless and until we grasp that, these results will continue. Blackpool (h) in November is next. Not looking forward to it.

I think you're right. I woke up this morning still annoyed!

Whatever the next few results are, they're still going to be the players and coaches who choked in our biggest game. They've a lot of mending and making up to do.

Yeah I can’t remember too many derbies we have won I have been watching us for 50 plus years it’s bloody annoying .

I'm either getting old or just losing my passion. Utd beating us 6-0 hurt. Blackburn beating us 4-1 on a Friday night hurt.

Yesterday disappointed - more in our performance than anything.

The social side is outweighing the football side in enjoyment for me

We did. Just stood around watching them play at times. Fucking infuriating.

The debate about Morley and Sheehan- perhaps it's simply a case that in these games, we can't play them both.

Morley was dropped a similar time a year ago, and Evatt discussed it openly. He explained that they wanted to work on Morley's defensive game. I think it has worked to the extent that he doesn't push on as much now, and will sit deeper.

Unfortunately, I think it has hampered him in his natural attacking flair, although at times it possibly helps Sheehan.

All fine against some teams, but we're not cracking the ceiling enough against the better teams.

The coaching team must find some solutions to this. Wouldn't have bothered if we'd played 4 midfielders yesterday with Vic on his own. Just have runners joining him.

Not a time for panic though, just frustrating.

We dffo did. As I've already said. It was crying out for SJM or Taggart,(or SKD, or young Todd). Somebody to knock them about early on. Any 'bully' you can think of. They had one in the mad Irishman. We used to shit ourselves as soon as the team sheet came out.

With the exception of yesterday the early signs are that we have improved despite not replacing our best players from last season. I’m thinking and hoping that yesterdays performance was a one off freak result. Let’s see where we are in 10 games when we will be better placed to judge if yesterday was a blip.

I'm sure we'll put a good run of results together, we know we can beat the majority of teams in this league

It's what happens in the big games under pressure that matters

Derby would.

I think like a lot of us I am looking for any positives this morning and the only thing i can come up with as daft as it may sound is that perhaps this could turn out as the best result of the season for us.

The players need a good look at themselves today and if any one of them can say I did ok then they need to fak off, what's come of yesterday is playing with a back 3 we need the basics of having a 3 who can defend.  I know they have to have the pass in them but gawd sake defend must be the no1 priority. Things have to change and toal coming in for iredale is number 1, we havent seen anything of ashworth or Forrester to know if they can do this job,  if not then a new centre half is needed.

Morley-  I have said my piece on him and dont like seeing the lad made a scapegoat but he is nowhere near good enough for a promotion chasing team.

We really missed Charles and I dont mean for just his goal threat, their defenders were taking the piss, nlundulu a last 15 minutes sub at best.

Evatt can now see where our shortcomings are and perhaps that performance is what was needed to do this.   I trust evatt to sort this and next Saturday is the perfect chance to show this.

It's difficult but let's move on lads.

Jones needs facial recognition software fitting because I’m damned sure his colour recognition software is fucked. His inability to differentiate between our white and their red shirts was astonishing.

I think they'll find it hard to break some teams down who sit behind the ball and invite them to work their way through them. They were set up perfectly to do what they set out to do and we made it a doddle for them.

On the attitude / firing them up thing, either Evatt doesn't think he needs to fire them up and that our technicality will win out, or he does try to fire them up and it's not in their DNA to respond. If that's the case it's down to him and Markham to do their due diligence better when it comes to recruitment. I'm not convinced those sorts of qualities are high priorities when they are identifying targets

Bollocks absolute bollocks. Teams at this level concede goals like that all the time.

I was particularly fuming with Jones's passing yesterday, but is there anything around the strikers not coming short like Charles does so often? So many times, his passes were aimed on the deck to a striker, but were 10 yards short as Vic and Dan were static.

Not defending Jones btw, it was appalling, but it perhaps illustrates how important that deep lying striker is to our play.

That also suggests work on the training pitch was ineffective.

Seems like a lack of understanding.

Can't disagree. So many things went wrong yesterday that it's almost irrelevant. Just an observation that probably demonstrates that I'm still in the "bargaining" stage of grief.
