Fucking hell I feel like I've ended up standing in the corner surrounded by the pub bores

As I was trudging through the depressing dross I was just thinking of yon mon in Early Doors constantly wanking on about roadworks and similar and then saw your post!

Great minds.

Seem to remember something Evatt said early in the season about "working out what the opposition were doing" at the beginning of the game and then adjusting as required and I can see his point, but I just don't like the idea of waiting until they score as Pompey did.

Maybe we should do what we do best i.e. move it quickly through the lines and let the opposition worry about us instead?

It’s the “adjusting as required “ where we are falling down.

The scouse depression taking over.

Get on a win double on BWFC wins over Shrewsbury and Port Vale. Money for jam.

agreed, it'll be shite odds though I bet. Both games us at 1/3(ish) I'd reckon

I took a look on Sky Bet. A double was 1/0.84

If you had a double Bolton to score 3+ goals in each game you’re at 5.88/1

I had a tenner on.

Hoping to see Charles and Collins together tomorrow, now that Collins has settled in and is in such good form.

I'd like to see Iredale get a game too, very unlucky to miss out on Saturday.

Whatever team we put out should win tomorrow though.

Charles is going to be on the bench again. Not taking any chances & easing him back in. No reaction form Sat & training though which is great news.

I think JDC might be out, going off something Evatt said and Santos might be delicate

Id guess Evatt picks

Baxter

Jones, Toal, Taylor, Iredale, Ogbeta

Front 5 unchanged

Jones seemed to be struggling last 15 mins on Saturday.

Bod appeared to hurt himself swinging a shite shot at goal, he might be ok but he seems to have a history of having pretzel legs.

JDC got a knee in the lower back.

Santos seems to need a morphine injection before he plays lately.

Yes good idea. You should look in to being a football coach pal.

Your insight into football is clearly brilliant.

High praise indeed 🤣

...but I've done the coaching thing and still shout my head off at my team mates when I play, much to their occasional annoyance. Just to give the jingoists something else to whine about, I've posted this on the Shrewsbury board:

Quote
Time and time again Bolton have played teams that are out of form, whose fans are complaining, who have nothing to play for, have a lower half or mid table league position and who suddenly turn into Barcelona when they play the Wanderers. Absolutely no idea what causes this phenomenon but it happens and so many of their fans go away saying it's the best they've played in ages.

I can understand it to some extent with the likes of Wigan and Blackpool where there's a local rivalry, but Burton Albion or Leyton Orient?
A lot of Wanderers fans are saying that the reason we haven't already bagged automatic promotion is because we don't perform well against the "top teams" in the division - but the reality is we've dropped more points against teams in mid-table and the lower half including:
Burton A 1 -1, Wigan H 0 - 4, Reading A 2 - 1, Bristol H 1 -2, Leyton (A) 1 - 0, Wigan A 1 - 0, Northampton A 1 - 1, Exeter A 2 -2  - that's 21 points right there down the pan - easily enough to make us champions regardless of results against the likes of Pompey.

I've seen enough not to underestimate any team and that coupled with the fact that games can be decided on a freak goal, a defender's slip, a bad refereeing decision and other factors that can't be controlled - let alone poor performances on the day - and have come to the conclusion that predicting results is to a large extent guesswork - it's all about performances on the day.

Wanderers are under a lot of pressure to bring our A game tonight - and in some respects pressure might help to eliminate any complacency and focus their minds - so I'm expecting them to deliver. Anything less would be disappointing to say the least.

Yes I expect us to win - we have to win - but we have to be totally focused, disciplined and ruthless - and that we can control.

I think im right, GD between us/Derby is only in play if we get exactly 4 more points than them, so them getting 0,1,2,3

If they get 4, we have to get 9 which takes GD out of it

And id say 4 or 6 is their most likely haul

Basically we need them to draw or lose against either Cambridge (18th) or Carlisle R (24th)

We could do with Cambridge losing tonight at bristol rovers to keep them in the relegation battle

Draw. Enough to keep them needing points, but not a demoralising defeat that puts them on the back foot.

Would love Peterborough to lose, resign them to Play-offs and give us bigger allocation at their place.

When we win tonight 😊, a draw for Derby on Saturday put's auto. promotion back into our hands - assuming we also win on Saturday...... and I'm sure we would all gladly take that.

However, if Derby were to lose on Saturday, it would offer us the opportunity to go up automatically with just a draw in our final game at Peterborough..... if we have scored enough goals against Shrewsbury and Port Vale to overall Derby's 5 goal advantage (which would reduce to a maximum 4 goal advantage in the above scenario as Derby would have lost by at least one goal).

2nd however; whilst it would be great to have the comfort that a draw in our final game might be sufficient to get us automatically promoted, it would be a VERY risky strategy to adopt - Let's assume Derby lose on Saturday (by the odd goal) and we win both home games 4-0, we would then be 4 goals ahead. But with us only drawing the last game at Peterborough (to fulfill the scenario), Derby would overall us if they were to beat bottom of the league Carlisle by 5 goals!

So, a Derby draw on Saturday, or (albeit highly unlikely) against Carlisle, would be fantastic and ensure 3 wins for us gets us promoted. A Derby loss in either game means we have have the chance of going up with 2 wins and a draw.

2 Derby losses anyone? 🙏🙏🙏:jump:

Just focus on 3 points tonight no matter what. Even if it's 1-0, result is be all tonight.

Ideal Saturday would be a couple of early goals, Cambridge digging in until HT and making life awkward for Derby.

Agreed.

You just know there's going to be one of those situations where false rumours about scores in the other game start spreading, little pockets of cheering around the crowd etc

Just need to win; forget goal difference because we just need Derby to slip up and win our remaining game’s

I agree, but we wouldn't half be kicking ourselves if we win 2 games and draw one, whilst Derby lose one and win one..... and they go up having a one or 2 better goal difference!

Let’s just get tonight out of the way first, we need to see off the Shrews before we can even think about Saturday. Even if we do win tonight Derby must still be favourites to win both of their games so it’s going to be a tough ask whatever we do. I fear that we blew the autos on Saturday when Dion hit the post and the officials missed a stonewall pen at the death. Luck does play a part whatever anyone says and other than bad we haven’t had much this season. ☹️

The Derby game was the killer. Put them in such a strong position
