bolton va va Posted February 8, 2025 Posted February 8, 2025 SS will have learnt a few things today....the back 4 was a mess with a big hole in the middle, we need a ballwinner / more physical player in midfield & McAtee can't play upfront on his own. but against that......we scored 4 without Collins when we were wondering if could score any without him, the subs all contributed & above all, it was a cracking ,entertaining win. EIEIEIO Tutu was unplayable 2nd half but MOTM was Sheehan, absolute class. PS, Fuck off Crawley, cheating bastards, you got what you deserved. Quote
W.cramp Posted February 8, 2025 Posted February 8, 2025 Anybody else notice the clock on the scoreboards stop working at 99 minutes? Obviously doesn't go to 3 figures (tinpot) . At least it didn't provide any scoreboard pressure. Morley, sheehan,Desmond mom,s Quote

We smashed teams like Crawley for fun under Evatt and now people saying we wouldn’t have won today but we never would’ve been 1-3 down. I can’t remember a game against a relegation team where we were two goals behind at home so people need to back off IE because he wouldn’t have had us set up to be 1-3 down. I did love the match though and am looking forward to the future. Quote
Barnstoneworth White Posted February 9, 2025 Posted February 9, 2025 Did anyone see the reaction from their manager and coaching staff as they walked off the pitch at the end of the game? They were getting massive pelters from the WSL - 'Pit of Hate' proportions - and were threatening to take their coats off, in a comic fashion, as if to say 'farkin, come on then.' Priceless. Quote

Wanderlust Posted February 9, 2025 Posted February 9, 2025 Another narrow win against a team that some on here were predicting a cricket score against. So many people out of touch with the reality of where we are at and the quality of other teams in the league. Quote
Lostock Whites Posted February 9, 2025 Posted February 9, 2025 (edited) Wow what a game of football, it's weird because at 3-1 down I felt that we could still get something. Today was just proper refreshing, playing with 4 at the back for the first time in years, with actual wingers, terrorising their defenders. I'm torn between Tutu and Sheehan for man of the match. Both impacted the games in different ways but both scoring. Sheehan sprayed at least 4/5 unbelievable balls and for a small guy, he really plays with his heart on his sleeve. His goal came from his own interception, carried it forwards and got in the box. Tutu, wow, there's nothing better in football than just seeing a player go at the other team like that. Seeing how cool and composed Schuey remained and his ability to change our shape completely and no more like for like substitutions. Just a lot of new things we haven't seen for years. We've got ane excellent manager on our hands. I genuinely can't wait to watch us play next. We are going to lose games between now and the end of the season inevitably. However that spark has come back and it feels like we could do something special. Regardless, just to sit and enjoy the football is the most important thing. 2 weeks ago it couldn't have been any more different. Edited February 9, 2025 by Lostock Whites Quote
VividDreamer Posted February 9, 2025 Posted February 9, 2025 Fantastic comeback. Shouldn’t be conceding that many goals at home to anyone let alone fucking Crawley Town. SS will sort that defence in no time I’ve no worries, read a stat that we are the second highest scorers in the division but not sure if that’s true? RE Schon, top quality on the ball, played out of position today, he will run the show on his preferred side imo. Quote

It wasn't very often we lost to the dross of the division under Evatt, it was against the bigger teams in and around us that we bottled it. Tbh I don't want to think about "what would have happened under Evatt" anymore - he clearly needed moving on. I'm just enjoying having the atmosphere back, having a manager without all the antics and one who seems to be willing to adapt tactics in game. Quote
CambridgeBWFC Posted February 9, 2025 Posted February 9, 2025 I do find it fascinating that people need a villain or scapegoat to direct their anger or frustration towards. Now Evatt has gone Schön is in the cross hairs, although some still clinging on to Evatt for the time being. Schön is far from our biggest concern and was hampered yesterday being played on the right. Some very positive things yesterday, changing formations, set up tactically to counter the oppositions style. Some nice quick positive passing and a willingness to shoot. Sheehan and Morely both with incisive accurate passing Into channels for wingers and full backs to run on to. But there were also concerns, we scored 4 but without Collins we may still struggle for goals and need our other forward players to contribute more. Our defensive frailty was highlighted again, Toal was probably our worst player and was at fault for two of their goals. As much as everyone was clamouring for 4 at the back, it didn't work that well yesterday with the personnel we had on the pitch. For the rest of the season the 5 might be preferred to make us harder to beat, or Santos comes in for Toal in the 4. Early days, and more positive than not for me, and there was a lot of entertainment, which we have been starved of for some time. Quote
ianofcleveleys Posted February 9, 2025 Posted February 9, 2025 SS will need, and should be allowed to have, a few games where he learns about what players can and can't do, where they can and can't play, what their good and bad habits are, and what systems he can play with the disjointed, unbalanced and fragile squad he's inherited. He took it all in yesterday and stayed calm amid the chaos of that second half. Just saw him shake his head once, when Toal left the ball. Otherwise it was full focus on 'how can we solve it and who's best to do that'. Quote
Popular Post gonzo Posted February 9, 2025 Popular Post Posted February 9, 2025 Schon might have been a bit ineffective yesterday but christ he wasn't that bad was he? I think he's been alright this season tbf. Give 100% and is always running at folk. Not much more you can ask from a player signed from the Hungarian second division really. Quote

I agree we definitely miss Rico at the back, he’s a massive presence there and if played purely as a defender is the best we have. Hopefully when he’s fit and isn’t required to act as a playmaker we will be all the better for it. I just hope he can get his head straight under SS and put what’s gone on behind him? Quote
marple whites Posted February 9, 2025 Posted February 9, 2025 We needed a win and that’s what we got. positives were scoring 4 without Collins, Sheehan, tutu, morley, in game management and the excitement of that last 30 minutes. (Cooley I also thought did quite well) negatives were mcatee, sloppy defending, referee, this goalie sitting down lark and allowing team talks, crazy time wasting but what I would say is the passion and adrenaline in yesterday and the Huddersfield game have been on a different level. That is why you go to football. More of that please. Quote

Not sure he’s got the pace to play in a 4, maybe he was carrying the injury recently. Toals by far our quickest but that counts for nothing if your positioning is all over the show like it was yesterday. Would certainly like to see if santos works in a 4, as we’ve only seen him in an 5, whilst receiving 2 yard passes from the keeper on the 6 yard box. Only one way to find out. Quote

Very easy to make stats say what you want. Without doubt though, Evatt wouldn't have made those tactical substitutions yesterday. Quote
