desperado Posted March 26, 2025 Posted March 26, 2025 SS says 16 or 17 points should do it. Average for 6th spot is 74. Blackpool - 1 Wigan - 1 Bristol - 3 Rotherham - 3 Barnsley - 3 Wycombe - 1 Lincoln - 0 Peterborough - 1 Stevenage - 3 Scraping in with 76 Quote
mattbwfc19 Posted March 26, 2025 Posted March 26, 2025 none of huddersfiedl, charlton or stockport have a particular easy run in. I would say on paper ours is the easiest, however football isn't played on paper and doesn't take into account our wigan/blackpool away curse. Can see this going right down to the last game Quote
bwfc4ife Posted March 26, 2025 Posted March 26, 2025 (edited) The problem for me is that even if we make it, i just can't see us being solid enough over two legs against either a Wycombe, Wrexham or a Stockport. Hope i'm wrong like. Edited March 26, 2025 by bwfc4ife Quote

IF we get there, i expect the play offs to be pretty tight this season - low scoring games. We've had 2 x 0-0 draws v Wrexham, a 0-0 with Wycombe, 1-0 home to Stockport (the away game was under Evatt and an outlier), Hudds we won 1-0 (again discounting the Evatt outlier) and again a close game v Charlton, close game at Reading, etc. The challenge will be getting there. I think it'll get pretty bunched up in that group and we could finish anywhere from 3rd to 8th still. Our problem is lack of forward options. Neither Collins nor McAtee are out and out strikers and we don't have much to support them. If this team got promoted from where we were the day Evatt left, with just two fit (part time ish) forwards, it would be a hell of a footballing achievement. Quote
L/H White Posted March 26, 2025 Posted March 26, 2025 by this time next week, we'd have lost 4 on the bounce id forget about playoffs for another year Quote

I'd tend to agree with you but Wrexham really should've had at least 2 or 3 against us. The Wycombe away game was like the Alamo and as far as Charlton are concerned, i keep expecting them to drop off. Stockport just looked bigger, more physical and organised at home. At times in the second half, it looked like they had an extra man on the field. Quote
Whitestar Posted March 26, 2025 Posted March 26, 2025 I had us only getting 74 as I'm realistic and looking at the last 3-4 seasons that's not enough. Quote

bolton va va Posted March 26, 2025 Posted March 26, 2025 I've read that 75 points should be enough, which means that we need 15 points from 9 games, very doable. ( though we did need 15 points from 11 games which was very, very doable ) Reach the play offs & we've as good a chance as anyone, but going into them with momentum improves our chances. Biggest concern for me is the lack of depth upfront. Neither of them are worldbeaters but injuries to either Collins or McAtee could really harm us. Quote

They may not be big, strong target men, but they score goals. That's all we can expect really. Neither have been as regular throughout the season as they would have hoped, and I reckon their goals return isn't too bad. Quote
Whitesince63 Posted March 26, 2025 Posted March 26, 2025 So what do we think about Charlton v Huddersfield on Saturday. A win for Charlton could put them 9 ahead of us if we slip up at Blackpool but leaving Huddersfield within catching difference, or would a draw be best for us and trust we win at the seaside. This could be a decisive weekend for us especially as Stockport are pretty nailed on to beat Burton at Edgeley. Quote

I suppose i have them both down as 'off the main man' types as opposed to 'the main man' if you know what i mean. I'm too old for trendy new positions but they're more of a 10 than a 9. They've played a combined 72 League Games this season and scored 20 between them, which I think points to neither of them being signed as 'goalscorers' but more as creators! Not being critical of them - McAtee in particular has been excellent since SS came in. And SS has to work with what he has / the injuries he has inherited. Just an observation that it will be tough to get promoted without what i would consider an out and out striker. Quote

Rizlar Posted March 26, 2025 Posted March 26, 2025 As for the previous season results count for nothing basically it’s a shoot out do you all remember how we thrashed Oxford last season counted for feck all in the final. Quote
