barryk32 Posted April 16, 2025 Posted April 16, 2025 (edited) I'm a massive advocate for the girls team. I especially like just turning up, walking in for free and getting 2 pints and a soft drink for under a tenner. Now, the game on Sunday........ 2 adult tickets and a kids. 9 quid!!!!! What the fuck. They have the audacity to charge a processing fee to email me a ticket 🙄. And it will be the usual bar prices too. Nobheads Edited April 16, 2025 by barryk32 Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted April 16, 2025 Author Posted April 16, 2025 It's at the main stadium. Costs associated with it. Three quid can't be argued at. Processing fee is always a twat. Wouldn't bother paying the prices for refreshments- take your own. Quote

Always felt that the keeping was a weak point in the women's game, but the goal height certainly does no favours. Makes Mary Earps all the more special for me. Quote
jayjayoghani Posted April 21, 2025 Posted April 21, 2025 Sometimes wonder if they should steal a netball player as a teenager and try and convert to a football GK. They tend to be absolute units. Quote

I remember reading something a few years ago on this. Despite more obvious goalkeeping howlers, the average number of goals in the womens game is about the same as the mens (this may have changed). Presumably due to fewer, harder struck quality shots. So if you shrunk the nets, there'd be less goals and by extension less entertainment. The only answer is to take it on its own merits and as a different sport, which it is. Thought the PNE keeper did a great job yesterday all things considered. Quote

Not too much different. The size of goals were agreed in 1863, when the average male height was 5’5”. Quote

Stepdaughter plays, is fast, mobile, has all the skills, reads the game but was never going to be big enough to get to Super League level Quote

I agree with you , however if you look at BWFC Womens team they won the 22 game league with a GD of nearly +100 so a lot of teams got spanked by more than 7. Im not advocating for a mercy rule , but at tier 6 how big are your keepers going to be ? PNEs keeper played really well and the shot she tipped onto the bar was excellent athleticism , and as Ive said both keepers could kick it further than I could nowadays . It is a different sport , comparing to the mens team is apples and oranges , my daughter loved it and has asked me if I can take her every home game , mens and womens . Job done girls you have another convert . As an aside I said I wouldnt go on the BEN comments section but the moaning fuckers on there saying we should fire it off as its taking funds from the mens team is unreal . Its really not good for my rage . Quote

Not sure what your point is. Mine was to highlight that goal dimensions of 8 yards by 8 feet were set at a time when the average height of men was similar to the current average height of women. Of course, while the current average height of females may be 5’4”, there are a significant number of ladies at 5’10” plus, from whom goalkeepers could be recruited and developed. Quote

I coach heptathletes and the very best tend to have the mix of height, power and agility to deal with the different demands of all the events. Jessica Ennis was a notable and brilliant exception but most of the worlds best tend to be around 6'0. Other forms of athletics are becoming breeding grounds for football too (a challenge for athletics as a sport in terms of retention), Lily Murphy, who has started to feature in Man City first team this season was developed as a national standard 100m and 200m by a coaching colleague at East Cheshire Harriers in Ashton under Lyne Quote
